The panlong cave section is a mountain layer dominated by calcium carbonate and supplemented by quartzite, which was formed 300 million years ago. In the past, the cave was level with the surface of the Qinglong River, and was eroded by the river and rainwater, and the calcium carbonate in the rock reacted chemically to form today's Panlong form.
