Liverpool manager Jurgen Klopp will not get a post-match handshake from Diego Simon at Anfield as his opponents see it as "wrong".
Two weeks ago, they beat Atletico Madrid 3-2 at Wanda Metropolis, and the Reds boss could only watch Simon rush down the tunnel when the final whistle sounded, without any recovery.
Klopp was annoyed at first, but later downplayed any long-standing tensions --。
"I don't like post-match greetings because they're emotions in the minds of both sides in different emotional minds," Simone said.
"I know it's a custom in the UK and a sign of respect, but I disagree, I don't like the falsehood it may contain, so I show how I feel."
'As a guy, I don't know much about Klopp but I know he's a great coach and has done well in every club he's been to.
It will be the fourth meeting between the two sides in three seasons, with Liverpool's thrilling victory two weeks ago and Atletico's victory at Anfield in March 2020 knocking them down, with all the ingredients of modern fierce competition.
However, Simeone insisted he and his players were in the game in a whole new form.
"It's two great stadiums with two great sets of supporters and two clubs that they want to continue to develop globally, so I think it's normal to be considered a great game," he said.
"It's not about getting revenge on someone, it's not there in football. There is no "let's get back to them" feeling.
"It's a new game and any result tomorrow will be the result of that game, not the one that happened a year ago – even if the game from a year ago will remain in the memory of Atletico Madrid fans."
Atletico's former Burnley and Tottenham defender Kieran Trippier insist they travelled to Anfield in search of victory that would weaken their hosts' five-point lead in Group B.
"We're not going to play any game in order to fight for a draw. We want to win, we have a winning mentality at this club," the England international said.
'We go there with confidence, we have this fantastic team.
'We showed the personality, the fight and the desire to beat Liverpool last year and it wouldn't be any different.
"We're going there tomorrow with the same winning mentality to get three points."
