Interesting flounder

Why do flounder eyes grow on one side?

Interesting to say, flounder is not like this when it is just born, its strange appearance is slowly formed later. When it was a small fish, it didn't look like its parents at all, and it looked like a normal little fish, with two small eyes growing on both sides of its head in a regular manner, swimming in the water several times a day to find food, leisurely. However, when it reaches almost a month, the body of the little halibut begins to deform, its body becomes a side flattened shape, the left and right are not symmetrical, and it is lying on its side and swimming!

Speaking of which, you may ask, how did a flounder grow into such a strange shape? In fact, it is the result of nature's evolution. It often lives horizontally on the seabed, and the eyes facing the seabed side lose their function, so it moves its eyes up. In this way, whether hunting for food or dodging the enemy's pursuit, two eyes always see wider than one eye. It seems that natural creation is really magical! However, this peculiarity of flounder is achieved through heredity.

Since the two eyes of the flounder grow on one side. Therefore, when swimming, two fish of the same species are needed to discern the direction. In general, flounder has the meaning of pairs. Later, it is inseparable from the metaphor, or refers to couples in general, so the flounder is also regarded as a symbol of love.

Flounder not only does the eyes move, but also is a veritable "face changer", and its skin color will change with the environment. Whatever color the sediment on the bottom of the sea is, what color its skin will become. To figure this out, someone once did an experiment.

Prepare several fish tanks with different background colors and place the flounder in separate ones. It turned out that the original exact same flounder had become the same color as the background. Then, the researchers changed the background color to a black-and-white square drawing, trying to deliberately embarrass it. But what I didn't expect was that it wasn't long before the flounder also became black and white markings. Flounders, whose skin changes, are superior to land animal chameleons. No matter where you stay, the color of the flounder's upward side always becomes exactly the same as the color of the surrounding environment. In this way, it can not only escape the invasion of the enemy, but also stay in the shadows, using the method of waiting for the rabbit to catch the prey, which is really killing two birds with one stone.

What's even more incredible is that its eyes have also begun to "move". After a short time, its two eyes actually grew to the same side of the body. How can a flounder have this ability? It has something to do with its skull. The skull of a flounder is made of cartilage, and when the eyes begin to move, the cartilage between the eyes is absorbed by the body. In this way, the movement of the eyes is not hindered. As the saying goes, one hair moves the whole body.

As soon as the eyes change, the whole body will also change. At this time, it could no longer float and swim, and had to lie on the bottom of the sea.

In addition to protecting itself with a face change, flounder also has a unique trick, and this trick is specially designed to deal with a big shark in the sea. When the shark swims over with its greedy mouth open, the flounder will immediately open the venom glands on its body and instantly shoot out a milky white liquid. Once the shark is stained with this liquid, the upper and lower jaws will be paralyzed, the mouth will not be closed, even if it is in a hurry, there is no way, there is no way, only to watch the flounder swim away. If this liquid can be synthesized, it must be the most effective anti-shark drug.
