"Where is Shangri-La?"
There is a legend in Tibetan culture: in another dimension of time and space in Tibetan areas, there is a kingdom called "Shambhala", which is a kingdom of special peace and tranquility because everyone has the source of happiness. Shambhala also has a lot of intersection with this world, and legend has it that there is a passage called the navel of the earth.
My name is Baima Dorji, and I am the founder of Songzan Cultural Tourism Resort Group. In his early years, he worked at CCTV and did documentaries for twenty years. My original intention and motivation for doing Songzan is actually the same as my motivation for going to CCTV, to introduce Tibetans and Tibetan culture to everyone. I think that perhaps traveling is the best and most direct way to share and experience Tibetan culture.
Through the hotel's platform to do a global ring road trip, to make the boutique hotel to a mountain village, I hope to connect these points into a line, and finally become the navel of the construction site to Shambhala.

"The first Songzan hotel, it was my own home"
My own home is at the foot of Songzanlin Temple, and I think that Songzanlin Temple itself is a destination, and the next to it, Kena Village, which used to be a bustling town, also has a long culture. I thought, maybe I could convert my homestead into a hotel. So that was my first hotel.

For about two years, I saw that this road could be walked, so in 2004, I resolutely left CCTV and threw myself into Songzan. In fact, at that time, I had the idea of doing a boutique mountain residence hotel, and at the same time, I also had the idea of doing a boutique mountain residence trip.
Tacheng, Cizhong, Meili, Benzilan, these sites were determined in 2004.

"The decorations are not just for decoration"
From the time we built the first Songzan Green Valley Hotel, all the way to the current construction, adding up to sixteen hotels, the entire building form, is the Diqing Shangri-La outside of these areas, each with its own unique architecture integrated. We try to connect all designs with traditional culture. It's an atmosphere and a scene. The one thing I face the most is to find the right things, the right things, including works of art.
I've been collecting Tibetan furniture since the 80s and 90s, hoping to keep some of it. Before that, in fact, I had collected a lot of Tibetan carpets and silk fabrics from the Ming and Qing dynasties, and these things also had a space for display after having Green Valley. From the perspective of thangkas, so far, all I have collected is the 80s, 90s, and latest to the 2000s or so of the relatively new thangka, are very famous authors.
Copper is inseparable from the traditional life of the Tibetan people, many pots and pans, and a lot of decorations, Buddha statues, all made of copper. From 2006 until now, I have raised three craftsmen who make bronze and have been making various bronzes for Songzan.

Now so many Buddha statues, in fact, are slowly collected and collected later, scattered in the commercial market, Myanmar, Thailand, Cambodia, these southern Buddhist Buddha statues, statues are particularly exquisite. Only such exquisite statues can create an atmosphere of peace and tranquility for this space.

"Songzan just wants to take you to the most beautiful places"
I think Songtsam's vacation and travel is different from the general vacation trip, and each of our hotels has been deployed to those mountain villages that people can't reach. Every hotel is located in a very good destination, with very good destination resources. So our slogan is called the Hidden Gate, because all the places where the Songtsan Mountain Residence Hotel and the Songtsam Linka Hotel are located, without Songzan, are not accessible. In turn, it also represents the most dominant landscape and culture of this area. Our guests can also experience many Tibetan cultural concepts through travel.
In my 11 years on CCTV, I spent most of my time doing films in Tibetan areas. As soon as I closed my eyes, I knew where the most beautiful places in my hometown were, how many shots I had taken over and over again, how many cameras I had set up, and where the most beautiful locations were in each place.

Tacheng is still a land of fish and rice. Our Tacheng Hotel is located on the edge of the village, in a forest, facing the entire rice field, plus this place also has a Yunnan Golden Snub-nosed Monkey National Park.
Cizhong was a small village on the Lancang River, and during that period, Cizhong had the only remaining rice paddies in the entire Deqin County. In the center of this rice field is the village, and in the center of the village is a church, which was built in 1898.
Songzan Meri often has a ceremonial event, if the snow mountain comes out in the morning, the staff will call each guest and ask them to get up to see the sunshine golden mountain in Meili.
We usually recommend guests to go to Mingyong Glacier. Mingyong can be said to be the glacier with the lowest latitude and the lowest altitude.
Another favorite place for our guests in Merry, which is also our strongest recommendation, is Called Hakuba Snow Mountain Ranch, which is a national nature reserve.
We took the guests to the Tibetan house to make the prayer flags, print them, and then take them to the other side of the Meili Snow Mountain to hang the printed prayer flags. Tibetans believe that these prayers printed on prayer flags are very positive. When the wind blows through these prayer flags, it will spread these positive energy to every corner of the world.
Benzilan is a particularly small place, that is, a small sand dam on the edge of the Jinsha River, you don't look at it so small, but it is very cultural. The previous relatively high-end lacquerware daily necessities in the entire Tibetan area were all produced in Benzilan, and now this place still maintains such traditional craftsmanship well, so it has also entered our travel products. In addition, there is a virgin forest at the end of the river valley where the Benzilan Hotel is located, which is a particularly beautiful primeval forest.
What kind of place can have the meaning of Shangri-La? That's where Songzan is, and all the things are accumulated, and maybe you will have a more comprehensive understanding of Shangri-La.

In terms of the meaning of travel, the best trip is to travel thousands of miles and see the world. In this process, I hope that the people who come to Songtsan to travel will gain more from the culture of this region and this nation, and a kind of inspiration for them. And what kind of inspiration is useful, I think it is to see how people in this place seek happiness and understand happiness.
Finally, we set this as the mission of our business: to pursue the source of happiness. I also hope that more people who travel to Songtsam will get the key to open the secret door and find a more stable source of happiness.
