Egypt will raise the Suez Canal transit fee by 6 percent next year, with the exception of cruise ships and LNG carriers

Bloomberg reported on Nov. 4 that Egypt will raise most Suez Canal transit fees by 6% in February.

The Suez Canal Authority said in a statement that the price increase would apply to all transit vessels, except cruise ships and vessels transporting liquefied natural gas.

The decision was made after "careful tracking and review" of shipping markets, global economic indicators and international trade flows, among others, the statement reportedly said. In addition, the exemption for cruise ships is mainly due to the impact of the COVID-19 pandemic on the tourism industry and the travel sector.
