Chaplin claimed to have been born on 16 April 1889 on East Volvos Street in South Walker, Lower London, but there was no exact birth certificate for him. From June 1896 to January 1898, young Charlie was only a regular resident of the Hamwell Central Poor School. On Christmas Day 1898, Charlie Jr., who was not yet 10 years old, became a professional stage actor.
Due to his father's profession, he joined a juvenile theater company at the time. After several weeks of training, Jackson quickly selected members of the troupe to perform dance. On Christmas Day 1900, the troupe, Lancashire, was given the opportunity to perform the animals in the kitchen in the dance play Cinderella. In the spring of 1901, Charlie left the Lancashire Theatre Company. Over the next two years, Charlie Jr. worked in a variety of jobs: a flower boy, a barbershop worker, a doctor's little job, and a newsboy. But he spent most of his time working in a glass factory and a printing plant. He also used to make toy boats in a private company.
In May 1903, his brother Sidney returned from the sea, intending to take the stage with the entertainment he learned on the ship. In May 1906, he joined another stage play, Casey's Court Circus, and performed for more than a year. At the age of 17, Charlie had already begun to play major roles in the comedy repertoire. In 1908, Chaplin signed a contract with Fred Carnot, manager of the British vaudeville theatre, and renewed it for another three years in September 1910.
In September 1912, he was selected to tour the United States with the Carnot Troupe. The tour lasted from September 1910 to June 1912. He was accompanied by a young comedian from the Lancashire Theatre Company, Stanley Jefferson, later Stan Laurel. In the spring of 1913, Chaplin was asked to contact the New York headquarters of the Keith Eastern Film Company, Késel and Baumann. The two parties signed a one-year work contract on September 23, 1913.
In 1914, Chaplin's debut film Making a Living was released. He was followed by several films such as Twenty Minutes of Love and Mabel's Married Life. At the end of 1914, Chaplin's one-year contract expired. That's when Essanay Film took chaplin up for a $1,250 a week salary and $10,000 in signing fees.
At Essanay Films, Chaplin gained more freedom and met his future wife, Edna Pervins. "Rogue" made him start to use comedy to show the lives of the people at the bottom, and the strong irony in "Work" gave him applause. After the end of Essanay's days at the studio, the films "Charles Chaplin's Burlesque" and "Triple Trouble" were broadcast without Chaplin's consent, and Chaplin's lawsuit was not legally recognized.
On June 17, 1917, Chaplin signed the much-hyped "million dollar contract" with First National Exhibitors Circuit, which would pay $125,000 in advance for each of Chaplin's eight independent films. The first film to be completed was The Dog's Life, followed by 1918's From the Army, 1919's Bright Side, and Happy Day.
In 1918, thanks to a huge promotion in independence, Chaplin established his own studio. Chaplin of 1918 also carried out a number of independent production activities during this period. He showed off his new studio in the comedy documentary How to Make a Movie. The distribution company refused to release the documentary, which was remade seventy years later before it was screened. "Bonds" is a work of chaplin film studios for the war, a comedy that calls on people to buy war bonds.
In the 1923 film A Woman in Paris, Chaplin made a cameo appearance as a station porter. The Gold Rush in 1925 and The Circus in 1928 won Chaplin an Academy Award. Chaplin came to London in 1931 for the premiere of City Lights, and only returned the following year, and his next film was 1936's Modern Times. Four years later he shot The Great Dictator, in which he played the Jewish barber and Hitler. In 1947 he filmed Monsieur Verdou.
In 1952, his film Career on stage was released, and in the same year he moved to Switzerland. The New York King (1957) is considered a portrayal of this life. In 1967 he made his last film, The Countess of Hong Kong. Queen Elizabeth II granted Sir Chaplin, who was already 86 years old, the title in 1975. On Christmas morning, December 25, 1977, Chaplin died peacefully at the age of 88 while sleeping at his home.
