Beginner Tennis Beginner Basics – Starting from scratch

author:Lots of people interest in classes

"All swinging sports are just pointing the ball at the ball and using skill to turn the ball back over the net." That's true of tennis, but it's not. After touching tennis, you may sigh: underestimate it, the difficulty of getting started is indeed greater than table tennis, badminton, etc.

The larger court and the heavier racquet compared to several other swing sports make tennis more demanding on the physical fitness of the participants. But what is not the practice accumulation can not be achieved, Xiaobian believes that after reading this article, there will be a lot of small challengers!

Grip

Gripping is the first lesson in learning tennis, and it is also a very important lesson. Gripping is the basis of various actions, and quickly and calmly switching grips in the face of various incoming balls can help us better grasp the timing of hitting the ball.

A brief description of a tennis racket

Before explaining the grip, let's first look at the structure of the tennis racket.

The tennis racket consists of three parts: the head, the throat and the handle. The racquet head is the part worn by the ball line for hitting the ball, the racquet handle is the part used to hold the racquet, and the pat throat plays a role in connecting and supporting the two of them.

Many novices tend to habitually hold their hands in the middle of the handle, but whether it is a forehand, backhand, serve or net front interception, the grip must be at the lowest end of the handle, so that the palm root and the bottom of the racket are in the same plane.

The handle of the tennis racket has eight edges, and the bottom cover of the racket is octagonal.

The following Xiaobian will set the position relationship between the edge and the palm for everyone to explain the two most common ways of holding, just look at the text may have some abstraction, the octagonal objects used in daily life are so few, you can grab the martial arts sword or fairy stick at hand to feel it.

Half-Western forehand clap

Beginner Tennis Beginner Basics – Starting from scratch

The base of the index finger of the right-handed shooter adheres to the no. 2 bevel, or the base of the index finger of the left-handed shooter attaches the no. 3 bevel. If the tiger mouth is used as a reference, the right-hand shooter should aim at the edge a on the right side of the no. 1 bevel, and the left hand shooter should deal with the edge b on the left side of the quasi-4 bevel.

Most beginners will learn the forehand from this grip, its degree of freedom is very high, adapted to a variety of techniques, is the general existence of "panacea".

Continental grip

The root joint of the index finger of the right-handed shooter is aligned with the No. 1 bevel, and if the left hand is clapped, the left index finger is aligned with the No. 4 bevel and the tiger's mouth is placed on the upper part. If you take the tiger's mouth as a reference, the right-hand beat is the edge a on the right side of the No. 4 slope in the figure, and the left hand shot is the edge b on the left side of the no. 1 bevel in the figure.

After practicing a few more times, you may find that the continental grip posture is very similar to the posture of holding a kitchen knife.

In addition to forehand hitting the ball (the mainstream practice is to use the semi-Western way forehand grip when hitting the ball with the forehand), the continental grip is the most common way of holding the ball, theoretically able to make any shot, almost all players today use the continental grip for the upper hand serve, cut the ball, the right hand of the two-handed back-flap and the interception in front of the net.

Of course, gripping and hitting are combined, and can be practiced with each shot and increased proficiency.

Prepare the action

Before we can officially enter the forehand and backhand learning, we need to master the preparation movements. Correct preparation action is conducive to the player to quickly judge the incoming ball situation and improve the coordination of subsequent actions. Holding the racket in one hand and hanging the head of the racket downward towards the bottom, side to the net, etc. are not ideal preparation positions.

The correct preparation action is shown in the following figure:

Action points

The body is facing the net, looking straight ahead. Feet about the same width as the shoulders or slightly wider than the shoulders;

Lean forward, bend your legs, tiptoe forward, don't be out of the way, and the center of gravity is on the forefoot. It should be noted that the action leans forward through the bending of the legs, lowers the center of gravity, does not bend over, the back is straight, from the shoulders to the hips in a straight line;

Hold the bottom end of the clap handle with your dominant hand, and gently hold the clap throat position with your non-dominant hand so that the clap head is tilted upwards and in the middle of the front of the body. The dominant hand grip pat is generally used to use the semi-Western way of forehand hand clap.

Preparation actions are used very frequently, and after each shot, you need to return to this action to meet the next shot, so you must develop good habits.

Forehand hitting

As the two most frequently used techniques on the tennis court, the forehand and backhand are very important to learn and practice a lot. There are many details of forehand and backhand shots, and the degree of action completion has a great impact on the quality of the return ball, and it is particularly important to grasp the details. When getting started, we will generally start with forehand hitting, and the following will briefly describe the main points of forehand hitting with the right hand as the dominant hand.

Forehand hitting consists of a lead shot, a swing and a follow-up.

Lead the beat

The right foot does not move, the left leg steps forward, moves to the front of the body, and the trend faces the body to the right. The center of gravity of the body should fall on the left foot between the legs, which is the direction of the incoming ball.

When the racket leaves the left hand and the upper body remains stable, the right arm is driven by the right shoulder to guide the racket backwards, while the left hand is ready to unfold forward and point to the incoming ball.

Swing

The swing is not just a hand to swing the ball, but has a complete power chain. Use the rotation of the waist, drive the movement of the shoulders, and then follow the movement of the arm to follow the body with the racket to swing the ball, and the center of gravity shifts to the left foot.

The position height of the batting point is around the waist of the body, the horizontal position is in the right side of the body, and the distance from the body is controlled by the natural bend of the arm extending the racket, the position of the middle and upper part of the pat face. Keep the face slightly tilted downwards and keep your wrists tight.

Go with the flow

The last box in the image above is the process of following the wave.

Following the trajectory will determine the rotation of the ball, etc. Beginners generally learn a relatively simple flat shot first, with the trajectory of the swing is to hit the ball and push the racket forward to the front, and then use the right shoulder as the axis to receive the racket to the left shoulder, and use the left hand to catch the racket throat or handle.

From gripping and preparing movements to hitting the ball with the forehand, a brief explanation of the introductory movements of tennis is here. It is necessary to combine the actual practice and carve the basic skills into the body through a large number of repetitive training. In the next tennis article, Xiaobian will explain the selection method of tennis rackets and other equipment for everyone, please continue to pay attention to and look forward to it.
