On November 5, 2021, "Reason – Wang Shaoqiang's Dimensions and Art" will open at He Xiangning Art Museum until November 28, 2021.
This exhibition is not so much an experimental study of contemporary ink humanities and geography as a research project on media and image language, and on the basis of the research of the Human Geography Discipline and the School of Imagery, the exposition and thinking of Eastern philosophy and concepts are carried out.
The exhibition will exhibit more than 60 works created by Wang Shaoqiang in recent years, presenting his artistic practice in the multiple identities and visions of artists and managers, starting from the Chinese and foreign art patterns, and studying the Chinese ideological culture and philosophical system, as well as its view of nature and history, trying to show his self-exploration with innovative significance in the current trend of thought in the construction of multi-dimensional and multi-media, and excavating a kind of pursuit and reflection on the future direction presented in his artistic practice.

Curator Wu Hongliang believes that star maps, grids, satellite map logos, ink materials, and landscape imagery are the key words of Wang Shaoqiang's works and also constitute the main characteristics of his artistic style.
Based on the understanding of the development of Chinese and Western art, the observation of the current art ecology, and the use of today's knowledge structure to re-understand and select traditional cultural resources, it should be said that Wang Shaoqiang deduced a set of his own creative methodology: he followed the abstract form, which is a common element of ancient and modern China and the West, and traced back to the original geometric image system of Chinese civilization, "River Map, Luo Shu", and then introduced the concept of "map" into traditional landscapes. If globalization is a seawater that wraps up all regional differences, Wang Shaoqiang uses the ancient river Tuluo book as an anchor to locate his boat that sails on the surface of the water in the waters of the oriental spirit.

This exhibition follows the research ideas and discourse logic of the whole set of creations, and cooperates with first-hand literature to break through the limitations of time and space dimensions for the first time and directly collect physical samples from the place of investigation. On the basis of human geography research, the picture retains the original methodology and tries to transform the language and concept level, deepening the description of minerals, solidity, and structure in shape and style.

In addition to the new breakthroughs in the creation of media, we have also introduced modern technologies such as sound and optoelectronics into the creation, realizing the visualization of three-dimensional installations, and the intervention of comprehensive materials has broadened the dimension and richness of ink media. From two-dimensional, three-dimensional to multi-dimensional, new intervention methods are carried out in the nine-square grid, including embedding physical specimens in metal materials such as copper wire, micro-carving and reconstruction of collected stone samples, searching for contemporary technical processing methods, and continuing the in-depth study of regional aesthetics in terms of shape and form.

Artist Profile
Wang Shaoqiang, Houshan, was born in 1969 in Shantou, Guangdong Province. He is currently the director of the Guangdong Museum of Art, a professor, a doctoral supervisor, an expert enjoying special allowances from the State Council, a director of the China Artists Association, the vice president of the Southern Branch of the Calligraphy and Painting Institute of the Central Research Museum of Culture and History, the vice chairman of the Guangdong Artists Association, a researcher and doctoral supervisor of the China Academy of Arts. He participated in the planning of the Guangdong Centennial Art Exhibition, the 2017 Guangzhou Image Triennial, the 2021 Guangzhou Image Triennial, and the chief planner and curator of the Documentary Exhibition of the 6th Guangzhou Triennial. In 2017, he was selected as a leading talent in the propaganda ideology and culture of the "Guangdong Special Branch Plan", and was named a person on the "China Art Power List" for two consecutive times, and was named a prominent figure in "National Fine Arts". He currently lives and works in Guangzhou.
