Cheng Hao said: "Self-denial is selfish, and naturally it can be restored." Although he did not study literature, he had already attained courtesy. (The Second Journey, p. 18)
Overcoming one's own selfishness can naturally conform to the moral norms of society. Although he did not study literature, he understood the norms of being a human being.
Etiquette refers to the moral norms of society, not ordinary etiquette and etiquette. For Confucius's "self-denial and retribution", Cheng Hao interpreted it from the height of eliminating one's own selfishness in order to conform to social moral norms. He also said: "The winner is not as selfish as his own selfishness, and the scholar can overcome it, is it not brave?" Self-denial is selfishness, and naturally can be restored. Here, Cheng Hao's insight into the selfishness of people's hearts is the most difficult proposition to overcome, directly attacking the key point in the depths of people's hearts, and putting forward the warning that non-courage cannot be overcome. The elimination of selfishness will be the key link and the first important meaning of people's moral cultivation and self-reliance under the conditions of market economy. (October 25)
