Text: Lian Cheng (original
).

In those years, Lao She and Jinan left behind many inexhaustible literati feelings! He is like a backbone pen and a love affair with a party of ancient Yan (the charm of Jinan is that it condenses the cultural heritage of Qilu and is beautiful and atmospheric!). )。 Daming Lake, the reason why it has become the city's image business card, "the sea is a hundred rivers, there is tolerance is great". It represents the simplicity and open-mindedness of Quancheng people, and the Qilu virtue of sincerely treating the world's guests!

"Lao She has made Jinan, and Jinan has also made Lao She." Listening to an old man tell the story of another historical old man, on the south side of the gate of the Daming Lake Lao She Memorial Hall, the towering bamboo forest and the Taihu Stone shaped like a torch are probably another expression of the feelings of Jinan people to Mr. Lao She, right? Just like in Taiping Lake, the Sunken Taihu Lake Stone with the backbone of Chinese literati is engraved: "The conscientious pawns of the literary and art circles sleep here." ”

Like this city, like the spring water here, like the people here, like to drink the tea brewed by the spring water here, like to dip the spring water in the old well with the pen in your hand, write "Winter in Jinan" and do a "spring water people's home" life, like the spring, summer, autumn and winter of old Jinan! After all these years, go home, Mr. Lao She, this brand new city is waiting for you, and you may never leave it.

Lao She, formerly known as Shu Qingchun, has another pen name of Xuan Qing, Honglai, Non-I, etc., and the word Sheyu. Because Lao She was born in the lunar calendar, his parents named him "Qingchun", which probably contains the meaning of celebrating the coming of spring and having a good future. After going to school, he changed his name to Shu Shiyu, which means "abandoning yourself", that is, "forgetting myself".

"Sheyu is a very happy person to make friends and is the most social, but at the same time he is full of artist temperament and can be lonely for writing."

"He did his duty, he worked hard when he wanted him to work hard, he stood up when he wanted him to stand up, he asked him to seek perfection when he asked for perfection...

Traditional Chinese literati have always been inseparable from bone qi! Just like Mr. Lu Xun's famous saying: "Horizontal eyebrows are cold to a thousand fingers, and bow down to be a widow cow." "To express the backbone of being a Chinese literati Peugeot!" And Mr. Lao She's literati Peugeot added his own personal elements to the Confucian backbone, humor. Humor can always be found in his life, perhaps from his personality, or from his life experience in Jinan.

Write articles with conscience, be willing to be a pawn on the road of Chinese literature; not in front of the magnates, bow down to be a sleeping horse! In other words, although what kind of friends you make is the writer's own business. But the word "friend" has the supreme meaning for Mr. Lao She. In Jinan, the capital of Qilu at that time, it was Lao She who stepped out of the old Beijing Flag people cultural circle, returned from the overseas British Isles with Western humanistic free thought, and melted multiculturalism into one furnace and matured in its literary creation. As a civilian writer from a poor banner, without this life experience and without these Jinan friends, Lao She would probably not be the Lao She in our eyes today.

The former site of Shandong Qilu University is now the West Campus of Shandong University. At that time, Qilu University was located outside the south weizi gate of the outer city of old Jinan, with a large and secluded campus, verdant trees and jagged Western-style buildings, which was very elegant and beautiful, and was called "informal park" by Lao She. Built in 1917, Qilu University, co-founded by the United States, Britain, and Canada, is one of the oldest of China's 14 church universities. At that time, Qi University was known as "the first university in North China", and together with Yenching University, it was called "Northern Yan and Southern Qi".

At the beginning of the 1930s, Qilu University, under pressure from all sides, accelerated its "more Chinese" reform map. It was in this context that the new literary writer Shu Sheyu, Mr. Lao She, was invited to Jinan together with five other Chinese cultural celebrities: Hao Liquan, Yu Tianyu, Chen Zubing, Xie Hui, and Wang Changping.

Mr. Shu Yi, the son of Lao She, said in an article: Lao She has a "friendly habit" that values friends more than everything. After his new marriage, he earnestly hoped that his wife would get up in the morning and not talk, and ignore him when she lit a cigarette. But as long as the friend comes, everything revolves around the friend, the conversation is the Tao, the conversation is dark, and the gentleman accompanies the gentleman.

Mr. Shu Yi here said that "after he was newly married", that is, the home in the courtyard of No. 58 Nanxin Street, the residence of Jinan Lao She. At that time, the small courtyard was full of flowers and plants, and Mr. Lao She had written about the spring and autumn here four times.
"Dad laughs and mom pulls books with her daughter, and the family of three lives happily." Jinan landscape is full of celebrities, and the cat ball in the basket is a fish in the basin. This is Lao She's oil poem inscribed on a "family portrait" photo. Because Mr. Lao She is a person with an interest in life, in addition to Xiwen making ink, he often likes to fiddle with some flowers and plants in the courtyard patio in addition to literary creation. At that time, the courtyard of the Shu House was full of red, and the grass and wood insects and fish were all prepared, that is, the so-called "cat balls in the basket and the fish in the bowl". Therefore, when I went to Lao She Mansion to "watch fish and enjoy flowers", I could talk freely with Mr. Shu Sheyu, a professor writer and a celebrity in Jinan, which became an interesting good story between friends in old Jinan.

On an old street, in front of and behind the house, most of the people who come and go with the old house are famous families. "The sea right of this pavilion is ancient, Jinan is famous and many", looking back at the long river of history, this painting is from a sentence in Du Fu's poem "Accompanying Li Beihai to Feast on the Pavilion", Du Fu's original poem is as follows:

The Eastern Domain is stationed in Soap Cover, and the Northern Nagisa Ling Qinghe. Hai right this pavilion ancient, Jinan mingshi more. Yun Shan has been revived, and Yu Pei is still a song.

Repair bamboo is not subject to heat, AC air surge waves. What will happen to the sunset when you encounter the true sorrow. Noble and lowly servants, from the public difficulty to heavy.

For this side of the water and soil of old Jinan, the famous people of the past generations have been multiplied; and in modern times, the South Pass Juxian is the most prosperous. In the summer of 1931, Lao She and Hu Haoqing came to Jinan together after getting married in Beiping. In order to congratulate their new marriage, the friend made a painting for them, the painting was called "Daming Lake". At that time, Lao She was a professor in the Department of Chinese of Qilu University and lived in Nanxin Street.

Friend recalls: I visited Mr. Lao She that afternoon. As soon as I met, I was impressed by simplicity, enthusiasm, sincerity and directness, and approachability. Dressed in a coarse cloth coat, he has a vivid expression and rich vocabulary when he speaks, and speaks a very fluent Beijing dialect, which is pleasant to the ear and happy to talk.

In the small courtyard where the gentleman lived, there were several small trees in the corner, and the pavilion was like a cover; the flower platform of the patio was full of countless flower pots, which contained a variety of different flowers and plants. Mr. usually carefully cultivated, patiently watered the courtyard, a piece of purple and red, a piece of buds to be placed; move a few rattan chairs and stools, small tea table in front of the well, even in the summer, there is really a quiet, comfortable, stable feeling, people linger, long refuse to leave.

Mr. Lao She is a person who pays attention to fun. In addition to raising flowers and fish, feeding cats and dogs, and raising birds to play with grasshoppers, drinking tea and listening to books and listening to plays, of course, they all retain the cultural and entertainment habits of old Beijing. A long coat, tucked under a few thread-bound books, a thin figure, a dress of cloth shoes, with polite glasses on the way to listen to the book.

Recall that when Lao She came out of the small courtyard of Nanxin Street, went south, and went out of the street south through the polder wall "New Gate", facing the Qilu University Alumni Gate; if you walk north along Nanxin Street, the north exit of the street is not far, on the left is the "Domestic Goods Mall" (Persuasion Field), and the right front passes through the Luzu Temple, which is the southwest gate of Baotu Spring, the "world's first spring". There is a cross-talking field in the domestic shopping mall, and there is a shed for singing big drum books in the south courtyard of Baotu Spring. In the polder wall of the south entrance of Nanxin Street, there is a small road to the west to lead to Xinjie, and along Shangxin Street to the north, the north exit of the street is Drinking Tiger Pond Street. Shangxin Street (formerly known as Banbiandian) runs parallel to Nanxin Street, one east and one west. (Now Shangxin Street from luoyuan street in the north, wenhua west road in the south, high in the south and low in the north, with a drop of several meters, walking from north to south, with the meaning of rising step by step, so it is called "Shangxin Street".) In the early years of the Republic of China, streets were formed. )

At that time, before the construction of Luoyuan Street, our family lived on this street, No. 11 New Street. Later, after demolition and construction of the road, it was moved out, and the current Shangxin Street only retains half the length of the previous street. Once there was a drinking tiger pond in the north of the street, and the drinking tiger pond street, the old pond site has been built and buried under Luoyuan Street, remember that there is a Qing Dao light-year inscription on the side wall of the pool, and I don't know how it is! The newly built Drinking Tiger Pond is not the old pool of the year. At No. 12 Shangxin Street, there are two calligraphers and painters from Lao She, Guan Songping and Mr. Guan Yousheng. Therefore, Mr. Lao She often went here in and out of that year, and only then did he have a long novel "Daming Lake" that Lao She completed during the summer vacation of 1931. Later, he wrote a novella "Crescent Moon" and a short story "Black and White Lee". (There are many stories between Lao She and Jinan, and we will talk about this later.) )

Mr. Lao She suffered from severe waist and leg pain due to a long period of lying down and writing. In the summer of 1933, on the recommendation of Tao Ziqian, an expert friend who worked in the judicial circles, Lao She followed the Hui martial artist Mr. Ma Ziyuan to learn to play cha boxing. And Ma Ziyuan's family lives in Xinjie, Lao She lives in Nanxin Street, the two streets side by side, because Mr. Ma has admired Mr. Lao She for a long time before, he personally goes to the door every day to teach.

Lao She and Mr. Ma learned boxing for more than a year, benefited a lot, not only the waist and leg pain was greatly alleviated, the basic activities were not hindered; the two also became good friends with each other, and Lao She also listened to Mr. Ma Ziyuan tell a lot of legends and stories in the martial arts circle in Jinan. In the autumn of 1934, Lao She left Jiji to teach at Qingdao University, and as a token of gratitude, Lao She presented him with a folding fan of calligraphy and painting. On the front of the folding fan is the ink landscape painted by Lao She asked his good friend Guan Yousheng; on the back is Lao She's own experience in learning boxing.

Although Lao She is a literati, he always has a chivalrous and cultivating feeling, the so-called "bookish temperament, chivalrous bone soft intestines" He seems to have always been obsessed with the image of this Muslim martial artist. After arriving in Chongqing in 1940, he cooperated with Song Zhi to write the four-act anti-war drama "National Supremacy". The main character portrayed in the play, the Huimin old boxer "Teacher Zhang" who is "well-known in Jilu, who knows and does not know Xianshi", Lao She clearly said: "Teacher Zhang in the play is the embodiment of a Huimin boxer I have been in Jinan for four or five years." After Lao She arrived in the United States in 1946, he interpreted and expanded this martial arts story and character image, and wrote the English four-act drama "Five Tigers Broken Soul Gun".

"No passing! Don't pass! The words of the boxer "Sand Dragon" in "Soul Breaking Gun" have become lao She's divine stroke. His swordsman novels spread to the other side of the ocean. "Drum Book Artist" and "Five Tigers Broken Soul Gun" became his proud works written in English in the United States.

Lao She, as the first "People's Artist" in New China. When he was in Jinan, he made friends with people. Teachers, journalists, painters, tea houses, cooks, coachmen, rap artists who shake the ground, dart boxers who walk the rivers and lakes, seven lines, eight works, three teachings, nine streams, all kinds of people, etc. In that dilapidated era, in the feudal and antiquated conception, there was a class view of people with a certain social identity. At that time, what a university professor was, very respected! But Mr. Lao She does not have this celebrity shelf. (Mr. Ji Xianlin, a master of traditional Chinese studies, recalled in "Mr. Lao She in My Memory".) )

Therefore, literary writing needs to be grounded. Good articles come from life, and there are always good articles to write in life. However, in Lao She's literary works in his lifetime, almost no writing about New York, almost no writing about London and Singapore, very few writing about Hankou and Chongqing, two or three articles written about Qingdao, even Beijing did not write much; only Jinan, he did not spare any ink, and wrote more than a dozen short stories for it.

At that time, a lace news was published in Jinan Zhongbao, called "Lao She's teacher is two cross-talkers in Jinan" Lao She often went to the domestic goods mall to listen to Wu Jingchun and Wu Jingsong's cross-talk, and later the Wu brothers also became friends of Lao She.

It is said that Brother Wu was a well-known figure in the cross-talk circle of the old Jinan Persuasion Field. At that time, they rented the West House of our old courtyard at No. 11 Shangxin Street, across the street from the persuasion field.

I remember hearing my grandfather mention it before: Boss Wu of Westinghouse, Elder Wu er had to go to the bookstore every day to persuade the bookstore, the people who listened to the books were uneven, sometimes there was always a cold field in the winter when there was no one in the cold field, his brothers waited, just leaned, so they said to the stools on an empty stomach (hungry stomach); Hey, that year was bitter! After the later development (good business), there are more and more full venues. At that time, Mr. Guan (Guan Songping and Guan Yousheng) came to our house to buy some cooked beef and lamb tripe or something, so he wrapped it in lotus leaves and sent it, and the Guan family often had guests. At that time, my grandfather did not know that among these guests were Lao She, Zhang Daqian, Li Kuchan and other masters of the Republic of China.

The Kwan brothers are good friends, which everyone knows. When his friend Zhang Daqian, a master of calligraphy and painting, often went to Beijing, he stopped by to visit him in Jinan, during which he borrowed the authentic works of Shi Tao's paintings collected by the Guan family. (The Guan brothers came from a salt merchant family and came from a well-to-do family, but they were orphaned at an early age and lived with their eldest brother Guan Jitai.) At the age of 6, he was known as a "prodigy" for playing chess. In 1928, Guan Yousheng graduated from the Department of Chinese Studies of Shandong University, and later went to Beiping to learn poetry and songs from Wu Qiuhui. He lived in Beiping for about a year and returned to Jinan. In Beiping, he became acquainted with the famous painters Huang Binhong, Qi Baishi, Zhang Daqian, Yu Feimin and others, and Zhang Daqian was the most rebellious, so he was greatly influenced by Zhang Daqian, and changed from learning yuan sijia to Shi Tao, which was the key to the transformation of Guan Yousheng's painting style. In 1934, Guan Yousheng provided Zhang Daqian's sketchbook with his sketchbook on Huangshan Mountain, which was well received by Zhang Daqian. )

I want to gather at my home when I was old and cold. When I was a child, my grandfather sometimes told me that on our street, we used to live in people with heads and faces. (These articles will not be discussed in detail, please pay attention to the next part) Our family South House used to have your great-grandfather when he was alive, and everyone who lived in the persuasion field told books. (The domestic goods mall, when the Shandong warlord Han Dashuai proposed to boycott Japanese goods and develop domestic goods,) Westinghouse later moved in with Wu Jingchun, the two brothers of Wu Jingsong. Our yard can be lively in the future!

They have to practice vocal endorsement every morning (in the past, artists were orally). Often pat and disturb the intention not to go, often buy some cooked meat to take care of; when the business is light, you also owe money on credit, and your great-grandfather is kind, always saying: "It's okay, outside to Jinan Province, who doesn't have a tight hand." ”

That winter, a gentleman came to the door of the old courtyard, and after slamming the door, he did not enter the door, so he asked: Is Boss Wu at home? Grandfather was young at the time, and it seemed that people wore top hats and eyes, thin figures, and a coarse cloth coat, and people laughed first. Grandfather asked busily: Is it looking for the Wu family in Westinghouse? "Yes, I'm waiting at the tea room opposite the door."

The man was chatty and chatty, and the cultural person understood etiquette and knew that it was inconvenient to enter the door, so he did not enter the hospital. (In the past, people paid attention to face, the so-called look at people before, not after people.) Know that poor people are broken. At that time, my grandfather did not know who he was, and then Wu Jingchun brought a newspaper and said: Look, this is Mr. Lao She.

Everyone knows that Mr. Lao She loves to listen to plays, listen to cross-talk, listen to books, and love to listen to the books of old Jinan, the so-called "Qushan Art Sea" spring water in the spring water.
