The elderly Du Fu was displaced and miserable. It's not just the suffering of life, the pain of the heart torments the elderly poet in a harsher way. At this time, Du Fu's mentality has undergone a huge change, and the horses in his pen have also turned into thin horses and sick horses. Du Fu's poetry is different from the ordinary literati's chanting style and moon, his poems are all refractive reflections of the state of mind, one thing and one thing, even one grass and one tree, all of which are invested in their own lives.

Du Fu had a poem called "Skinny Horse Line", which was written when he lost his official position and was demoted to Huazhou Sigong. On the way to his post, Du Fu met an "official horse" that had served the country and was abandoned in the wilderness after becoming ill and old. As soon as he saw the skinny horse, he immediately thought of his own situation, so he blurted out: "The skinny horse in the eastern suburbs hurts me"! The skin was peeling off, the hair was dark and yellow, and the horse's expression was:
Seeing people as miserable as mourning, the master's mistake is crystal clear.
The cold weather is far away from the goose as a companion, and the birds do not collect pecking sores at dusk.
At that time, he was proud of his health, galloped on the battlefield, and died for the master, and now no one adopts. The good horse is spiritual, it knows its own destiny, so it has a bleak face and no light in its eyes. It was cold and frozen, and the sick horse could only be accompanied by wild geese. At sunset and dusk, the skinny horse has nowhere to go, only birds pecking at its maggots. This bone-sharp sketch is really pitiful, and it is also Du Fu's tragic fate after lamenting his resignation.
Du Fu also had a poem called "Sick Horse", which was written around the age of fifty. Du Fu resigned his official post and went west to Qinzhou, where the weather was cold and the pass was far-reaching, and he looked at the old horse he was riding, and his heart was extremely sad:
It has been a long time since the ride, and the cold is deep.
Dust in the old try their best, the age of illness sad!
Isn't the hairy bone special? Tame is still there.
The thing is not shallow, touched a deep groan!
The sentence "It has been a long time since the ride" tells the story of Du Fu's half-life's hard work. Du Fu, who was upside down and displaced, touched people and touched things, and through the dialogue with the old horse, he spoke his heart. Although the horse is sick and old, he is still tame and loyal, and Du Fu must have seen his own figure in the old horse!
Du Fu loves horses, writes about horses, and writes about horses from horses to old horses, thin horses, and sick horses, reflecting Du Fu's pursuit of struggle, a sad and lamentable life.
