Yuan Longping (September 7, 1930 – May 22, 2021) was a male, Han Chinese, born in Beijing, a non-partisan from De'an County, Jiujiang City, Jiangxi Province. He is a well-known agricultural scientist at home and abroad, the pioneer and leader of China's hybrid rice cause, a close friend of the Communist Party of China, an outstanding representative of non-party personages, a recipient of the "Order of the Republic", a former vice chairman of the Hunan Provincial Committee of the Chinese People's Political Consultative Conference, the former director of the National Hybrid Rice Engineering and Technology Research Center, an academician of the Chinese Academy of Engineering, and is known as the "father of hybrid rice". He graduated from Southwest Agricultural College in 1953, was elected as an academician of the Chinese Academy of Engineering in 1995, was named Yuan Longping star in 1999 by the Schmidt CCD asteroid project team of the Beijing Astronomical Observatory of the Chinese Academy of Sciences, won the highest national science and technology award in 2000, won the Wolf Prize for Agriculture in 2004, was elected a foreign academician of the National Academy of Sciences in April 2006, and received an honorary doctorate degree from Macau University of Science and Technology in 2010. Yuan Longping is committed to the research, application and promotion of hybrid rice technology, inventing the "three-line method" indica hybrid rice, successfully researching the "two-line method" hybrid rice, and creating a super hybrid rice technology system. He also proposed and implemented the "three-yield and four-yield project", used the technical achievements of super hybrid rice, published 6 monographs in Chinese and English, and published more than 60 papers.
