Yuan Longping (September 7, 1930 – May 22, 2021) was a male, Han Chinese, born in Beijing, a non-partisan from De'an County, Jiujiang City, Jiangxi Province. He is a well-known agricultural scientist at home and abroad, the pioneer and leader of China's hybrid rice cause, a close friend of the Communist Party of China, an outstanding representative of non-party personages, a recipient of the "Order of the Republic", a former vice chairman of the Hunan Provincial Committee of the Chinese People's Political Consultative Conference, the former director of the National Hybrid Rice Engineering and Technology Research Center, an academician of the Chinese Academy of Engineering, and is known as the "father of hybrid rice".
