On April 13, when the police of Chongming Xinhai Town Police Station patrolled to the green belt of the Red Star Neighborhood Committee of Xinhai Town, they found an injured owl and immediately sent it to the Xinhai Town Agricultural Technology Center. Agricultural Technology Center staff then sent the birds to the wildlife shelter and rescue site in Dongping Forest Park. According to expert identification, this owl is a national second-class protected animal longitudinal-bellied owl, which was recorded for the first time in Shanghai, thus increasing the number of bird records in Shanghai to 507 species.
After careful inspection, the staff of the shelter and rescue point found that the right wing of the longitudinal-bellied owl was injured and could not fly, so they carried out shelter and rescue. After the longitudinal abdomen owl heals, it is released back to nature in time.
According to reports, the longitudinal-bellied owl is a bird of the genus Owl of the family Owl, which belongs to the national second-level protected animal, inhabiting low hills, forest edge shrublands and plain forest areas, and also appears in farmland, desert and jungle near villages. They are widespread in most parts of northern and western China and feed on insects and rodents.
