He was an explorer, always climbing upwards in the face of the storm, just to see the cliffs of the thousands of people in the moment;

He was a discoverer, always locking down the map to find the lonely wooden houses that stood alone above the snow;

He is a photographer who always borrows lenses to record magic, just to show the hidden magic of nature.

He is Chu Weimin, a post-90s photographer from Chongqing. Over the years, he has traveled around the world, traveled 30 countries, more than 200 cities, climbed 13 peaks at an altitude of 8,000 meters, measured the land with his feet, and presented nature with the lens.

Award-winning photo "Winter in Greenland"

This photo is of a small fishing village in Greenland, in a cold zone 300 kilometers north of the Arctic Circle.

A unique sense of silence collides with the fireworks of the human world in the picture, allowing people to see that under extremely harsh living conditions, there are still residents guarding this land, living and breeding here, quietly living their own lives.

Good views are all "waiting" for coming.

When filming this scene, Chu Weimin just started to shoot a few fantastic street scenes, but there was no activity, he always felt that there was some lack of vitality, after all, the scenery and people needed to interact.

In order to provide more information to the reader, he began to wait for the appearance of people, waiting for two hours in the bitter cold before he saw a family of three appear on the path. By this time the light was already very dim, he slammed the shutter, quickly grasped the momentary picture, and finally he chose one of the more than ten thousand photos to compete.

The connection between Chu Weimin and photography is actually an accident.

Years ago, he was also a software engineer working in Singapore's most prosperous financial district, delving into photography techniques in his spare time, taking advantage of his annual leave to travel while taking photography.

This life lasted for three years, and after being shocked by the beautiful scenery of nature again and again, he decided to quit his job and become a professional landscape photographer, which was also his choice after the entanglement between reality and ideals.

Because of his many years of background in science and engineering, many times he would shoot in the way of a programmer. Careful thinking allows him to make precise plans every time he travels, using satellite maps, meteorological software, drones and other scientific and technological means to plan, which enhances his ability to explore outdoors.

In August 2020, Chu Weimin went to Qinghai to shoot, and on the train to Golmud, he was shocked by the scene outside the window.

In the vast northwest of the motherland, on the vast Gobi Desert stands tall wind power plants, and the signal base stations exude a metallic texture of steel, which is particularly powerful in the vast land. During the long journey, you can see a magnificent scenery with a casual glance.

Wind power generation along the Qinghai-Tibet Railway

Looking out of the train window, the long road under the snowy mountains of Coco Xili, the dense anti-sand network wall outside Tuotuohe Station, the lonely 4G signal tower on the Gobi Desert, and the herds of yaks, golden barley, scattered temples and devout herders on the plateau are bursting with the vitality of this land.

The sights outside these car windows inspired him. He decided to devote more than 10 years of time to enriching the "Train to See China" project, using photos to show China's current development and Chinese real state of existence.

In this way, the Qinghai-Tibet line from Xining to Lhasa, a one-way trip of more than 20 hours, he went back and forth more than a dozen times, through the train window, in the fleeting scenery, capturing a single moment, constituting a magnificent scenery map of the northwest of the motherland.

A window with its own frame

The train is a window, giving him the opportunity to gaze at the scenery and freeze the moment, and the scenes outside the car window that are not detached from daily life but are somewhat distant appear in front of him, bringing a familiar strangeness, and those fleeting moments, once captured, often give people a feeling of a blow.

Each railway strings together the life stories of a generation, and the long lines inside and outside are dynamic pictures of social development.

For Chu Weimin, picking up the camera is his life. He uses photography to express himself for nature, and tells the beautiful Story of China with his lens. In the future, he will continue to have the passion to explore the world, enjoy the gift of nature, and pass on the diverse images of life to more people.
