In 1906, British and American doctors cooperated to establish the Union Medical Hall in Beijing, dedicated to cultivating Western medical talents. The school was recognized by the Qing court, and Empress Dowager Cixi and Li Lianying had donated money to help students. Empress Dowager Cixi was at the scene of the Grand Ceremony.

On November 15, 1908, Empress Dowager Cixi died of illness at the Yiluan Hall in Xiyuan. On November 9, 1909, the Feng'an Ceremony was held, and on the 13th, the Zi Palace was buried in the Bodhisattva Yuding Dongling Tomb. The Guangxu Emperor, who died a day before her, was unable to complete the mausoleum until December 1913, when the Feng'an Ceremony was held.

There is one thing hanging from these women, what is it? That was the heating artifact of the people in the winter at that time- the bamboo fire cage. It consists of a bamboo basket woven with bamboo and a clay bowl (tile pot) on the inside, and when it comes to the frost in the middle of winter, the charcoal fire is put inside and carried around, which is very warm and practical. Ordinary people can't afford to buy warm leather clothes, so they rely on the fire cage to survive.

This old man is skinny and skinny, described as withered, and makes people feel pity. Judging from the couplets on the door " Resign the Old Year " and "Welcome the New Year", the photo was taken around the Spring Festival, and the weather was still cold, so he put his arms around his chest and tried to keep warm. He was a homeless beggar, and we judge that the photographer made him take off his worn-out cotton coat in order to highlight his pitiful image.
