In September 2020, Peking University and the National Centre for the Performing Arts signed a strategic cooperation agreement, in which the two sides will jointly build a platform for the popularization, education and display of art in colleges and universities, a platform for the exchange, training and practice of artistic talents, and a platform for research, exchange and development of art management. In order to better build a platform for the popularization, education and display of art in colleges and universities, and open a new chapter in aesthetic education in colleges and universities, Peking University and the National Centre for the Performing Arts jointly planned and launched the "Peking University • National Centre for the Performing Arts Week" series of activities, and from May 21 to 22 and May 26, the NCPA production repertoire - drama "Cross Street" and the opera "Fang Zhimin" excerpt concert were staged at the Centennial Lecture Hall of Peking University.
In 1937, the film "Cross Street", launched by the Star Film Company, written and directed by Shen Xiling, and starring Zhao Dan, Bai Yang and other artists, was staged, which told the different life paths of four college students in the 1930s. Young people's love yearning, career life and social contradictions are interlinked, and have become a unique and ingenious work in the history of Chinese cinema.
In October 2020, the National Centre for the Performing Arts and director Huang Ying put this film history classic on the drama stage and successfully premiered. The drama "Cross Street" first entered the university tour, and director Huang Ying said in an interview with the media before the performance, "This work can enter Peking University, and the staff in front of and behind the stage are very happy." I believe that this drama reflects the young people wandering on the cross street 84 years ago, and today with the performance, it will also have a deeper dialogue with the Students of Peking University who are here. The predecessors have made their choices about where to face the intersection 84 years ago, and today they hope that through this work, they can have a broader exchange with more young friends and find out today's answers. ”
It is reported that the series of activities of "Peking University National Centre for the Performing Arts Week" will last until the 26th of this month. Next Wednesday, singers such as Wang Kai, Zhang Yang, Zhang Xin, and Kuo Jing, performers of the Opera Actors' Team of the National Centre for the Performing Arts, will take the opera "Fang Zhimin" to Peking University, the birthplace of the May Fourth Movement, to stage a concert of excerpts from the opera "Fang Zhimin" for students.
