Former site of the Political Department of the Sixth Red Army
For people living in the old street of Wangqiao Town, they all know that there is such a street, Liujun Street. Because I was studying there when I was very young, I went back this time on National Day and decided to make a close contact with Liujun Street. The former site of the Red Sixth Army is located in Wangqiao Old Street, now known as Liujun Street. It is a one-car-wide street, about 700 meters long, with twists and turns. There are houses on both sides of the road, with many two- and three-story buildings, and one-story bungalows rarely seen.
In order to understand the history of the Red Sixth Army, I know through the history of inquiry that the original historical Red Sixth Army had 5 units, and the Red Sixth Army established in Jianli was the latest and the shortest time. Historically, it is called: the New Red Sixth Army in the Honghu Area
In December 1930, the Red Sixth Army moved with the Red Second Army, and then lost the battle in Yanglin City, and two battalions of the Forty-eighth Regiment of the Sixteenth Division and one battalion of the Fifty-first Regiment of the Seventeenth Division returned to Honghu Su District because they lost contact with the main force of the regiment.
Zhou Yiqun and Duan Dechang merged the various armed forces returning to Honghu with the wounded and sick left behind by the Red Second Army into the New Red Sixth Army, with Duan Dechang as the commander, Chen Peiyin as the political commissar, and Hu Shen as the chief of staff. There were two regiments and a special service battalion under its jurisdiction, chen guangming, commander of the 48th regiment, and Qiu Hongxi, political commissar; Chen Huashan, commander of the 51st regiment, and Ma Sanguan, political commissar.
At the same time, two command centers were established in Jiangbei and Jiangnan, with Dong Lang as the commander-in-chief of the Jiangbei Command and Duan Yulin as the commander-in-chief of the Jiangnan Command.
In March 1931, the New Red Sixth Army was merged with local teams to form the Honghu Independent Regiment, with Duan Dechang as its commander.
Hu Shenji, Chen Huashan, Dong Lang, and Duan Yulin were mistakenly killed in 1932. Duan Dechang and Chen Peiyin were mistakenly killed in 1933. The situation of Chen Guangming, Qiu Hongxi, and Ma Sanguan is unknown.

During the Second Civil Revolutionary War, guerrilla forces led by Duan Dechang and Zhou Yiqun established the Red Sixth Army in wangqiao town, Jianli County. On February 5, 1930, the day of the founding of the Red Sixth Army, during the Spring Festival, two red guerrilla groups gathered in the playground of Dongwangqiao Primary School in Wangqiao Town and held a meeting to announce the establishment of the Sixth Army of the Chinese Workers' and Peasants' Red Army.
There are nearly 6,000 people in the whole army, and the military has set up committees for former enemies, established party branches and party groups, and strengthened military and political training for party members and soldiers. The leadership of the Red Sixth Army is all generals trained in military academies, and the main components of the unit are the children of workers and peasants, who bear hardships and stand hard work, have strict organizational discipline, and have strong combat effectiveness. The establishment of the WangQiao Army of the Sixth Red Army is undoubtedly a new milestone in the history of the revolutionary armed struggle in the Honghu Area, and has played a decisive role in the creation, consolidation and development of the Honghu Revolutionary Base Area.

To the east of Liujun Street is Wangqiao Primary School, which covers an area of about 15 acres. Entering the campus, there is a group of statues on the front, from left to right are busts of Duan Dechang, He Long, and Zhou Yiqun, the front of the base is written "The Site of the Founding of the Sixth Army of the Chinese Workers' and Peasants' Red Army", and the text on the back introduces the establishment of the Red Sixth Army: "On February 5, 1930, the 12th Column of the Central Independent Division of the Red Army met the division at Wangjiaqiao in Jianli. In the afternoon of the same day, Zhou Yiqun announced the establishment of the Red Sixth Army according to the instructions of the central authorities. The military commander Sun Deqing (who was succeeded by Kwong Jixun due to illness), Zhou Yiqun concurrently served as political commissar..."
Zhang Guorui, principal of Wangqiao Primary School, said that the "site of the founding of the Red Sixth Army" is the main position of patriotic education in the school, and every Monday morning at the flag-raising ceremony, 4 primary school students guard the flag bearers set off from here; every year before the Qingming Festival, the school holds the Qingming sacrifice activity of "remembering the martyrs and not forgetting history" here; educate the students to remember the great achievements of the revolutionary heroes of the Red Sixth Army and inherit the spirit of the Long March.
At the intersection of the Shahong Highway and the Wangqiao Link of the Jiangbei Expressway, there is a "Monument to the Founding of the Sixth Army of the Chinese Workers' and Peasants' Red Army" inscribed by Li Xiannian in 1985. Liu Hongdao introduced that the monument was established in 2005, with a height of 19.3025 meters, which coincided with the founding time of the Red Sixth Army on February 5, 1930; there are three layers of monuments, stele seats, and stele bases, which coincide with the three columns under the jurisdiction of the Red Sixth Army; the base of the monument is hexagonal, which coincides with the "Red Sixth Army". He Haiyan, secretary of the party committee of Wangqiao Town, said that Wangqiao Town plans to build a memorial venue for the Red Sixth Army, with a total investment of about 30 million yuan, and the site is located next to the monument, covering an area of more than 50 acres.
