Wastewater recycling allows fish to be raised, and the air quality of steel mills is better than that in urban areas
In the Echeng Iron and Steel Works area in autumn, the trees are verdant, the streams are meandering, and the air is filled with the sweetness of osmanthus flowers. Stroll through Huaxi Wetland Park, look up, blue sky and white clouds, occasionally egrets fly by; look down, the water is clear and green, but see fish soaring shallow bottom.
Huaxi Wetland Park covers an area of 480,000 square meters, equivalent to the size of more than 1,000 standard basketball courts, and can treat reclaimed water (that is, treated domestic sewage, industrial wastewater, rainwater, etc., the water quality is between clean water and sewage) 200 cubic meters to 500 cubic meters, and the water storage capacity can reach 10,000 cubic meters.
Surprisingly, the wetland park is actually a reclaimed water treatment plant that acts like the "bladder" of a water system. Here, after industrial wastewater and domestic sewage are treated, some of them are reused. The other part that cannot be used up, after deep treatment, all flows to the wetland park.
"Its built-up area is the largest among domestic urban steel mills, and the water quality standard after treatment is the highest, reaching the three types of surface water standards." Xiong Ying, director of the company's corporate culture department, introduced. "The wastewater of the original factory was discharged in large quantities, and there were tens of thousands of tons a day. Today, zero discharge of wastewater has been achieved in Egang. ”
Driving in the factory area, the slogan "Create a green and intelligent urban steel mill" can be seen everywhere. Smokeless in the air, dust-free on the ground, odorless on the site, in the ultra-low exhaust gas discharge, Echeng Iron and Steel has also achieved negative energy steelmaking. "In layman's terms, it is to produce 1 ton of steel, and Egang can 'pick up' more than 20 kilograms of standard coal." Bear Eagle said.
These data, whether it is air quality or water quality discharge, can all be monitored in real time through the intelligent big data platform of the Egang Operation Center. "In the intelligent transformation, the company has invested three or four billion yuan, of which the proportion of which is used for environmental protection accounts for one-tenth." The company's environmental protection system and the monitoring system of relevant government departments are networked, and the environmental protection dynamic indicators of the production link can be grasped at any time to ensure zero discharge of wastewater and ultra-low emission of waste gas. The reporter saw on the display screen of the Egang Operation Industry Centralized Control Center that the air quality (AQI) value of the Egang steel plant area was 38, and the air quality (AQI) value of the urban area of Ezhou was 67, which was better than the urban area. The pH value, ammonia nitrogen content, total phosphorus content and other indicators of water quality discharge at the discharge of the comprehensive wastewater treatment station are all within the national control standards.

How is steel made in the era of intelligence? In Egang, the whole smelting process has been basically automated, and the field operators have been replaced by computers.
Located in the ingenuity park of the steel mill, the operation industry control center has two floors. Here, 114 operating rooms, including ironmaking, steelmaking, steel rolling, energy, environmental protection, and remote metering, which were originally scattered in various areas of the site, were concentrated into one. The whole space is clean and bright, full of technology, and the walls around the two floors are hung with all kinds of large screens, and skilled workers can remotely control it by simply sitting in front of the computer and clicking the mouse. This is the first time in the steel industry.
In front of the big screen in the steelmaking area, the reporter saw that from the converter, refining furnace to continuous casting, the whole process process was clear at a glance. "The remote one-key opening and plugging iron opening technology pioneered by Egang Steel can understand the situation in the furnace in real time through three-dimensional modeling, and carry out real-time regulation and control of various indicators, components and other coefficients in the blast furnace." Ding Dongru, chief engineer of the Egang SteelMaking Plant, said.
In Ding Dongru's memory, in the past, as soon as he entered the gate of the steel mill, a heat wave crashed over. The iron mouth opened, sparks splashed everywhere, 10 meters away from the iron mouth, and it was almost splashed. At that time, the size of 1 million tons needed 20,000 people. Now, with a scale of 6 million tons, only more than 3,000 people are needed, and the labor efficiency has increased by more than 30 times.
"Like the position of furnace foreman, it needs to be operated in front of the blast furnace, the risk of high temperature and gas safety is very large, and after the intelligent transformation, there is no such position on the site." Ding Dongru said with a smile. "In remote control, if the parameters are adjusted very well in advance, there is no need for manual intervention at all. The on-site personnel in the steelmaking plant are mainly responsible for daily inspection and guardianship safety."
5G holds up a safety umbrella, and dangerous workstations are replaced by robots
Immediately, in Egang, manual inspection of the danger zone will also be replaced by 5G robots.
As the first 5G+ smart steel mill in China, in November 2019, Echeng Iron and Steel and Hubei Mobile signed the "Agreement on Joint Innovation and Open Laboratory for 5G Steel Internet" to jointly establish a research and development center to deepen the application of 5G in the steel industry. At present, the first phase of infrastructure construction projects such as 5G base stations and 5G industry private networks in the Egang Steel Plant area has been completed, and 5G applications have begun to be gradually promoted.
Nowadays, Egang has applied 5G technology in the fields of liquid metal safety production control and control. On the liquid metal bus screen of the operation center, several rectangular-shaped fences constantly flashed red apertures. The workers operating on the spot, each wears a white 5G Beidou positioning plate, if you invade the electronic fence, the workers will receive an alarm on their mobile phones, and at this time, the staff of the control center will also be the first to know the danger.
He Jianxun, deputy general manager of Hubei Mobile Ezhou Branch, said that in the next stage, the two sides will further promote the application of 5G + Beidou molten locomotive accurate positioning, 5G + dangerous area robot inspection, 5G + remote driving control, 5G + VR/AR and other aspects.
