Lintao, known as Didao in ancient times, is located in central Gansu and is named after the Tao River in its territory. Yongning Pontoon Bridge outside the west gate of Lintao City in 1932. The pontoon bridge spans the Tao River, originates from the Xiqian Mountains in the northwest of Lintan County, and flows into the Yellow River through Min County and Gaolan Counties. Historical records record that in the sixteenth year of Qianlong (1751), Lintao built a pontoon bridge at the foot of Xiyan Mountain, two miles west of the city, with a high pier on both sides of the bridge, a stone cage for each base, and a number of iron cables through the stone cage, stringing up twelve large boats, laying wooden planks on it, and rising and falling with the water.
