On April 21, 1949, Deng Zhongyu, who had just graduated from Wuhan University, took over the Tianmen County No. 1 Junior High School (now Tianmen Middle School in Hubei Province, referred to as Tianzhong) together with Yu Shengzi, a Communist Party member who had been engaged in education in the old liberated areas of Shandong For many years.
From July 10 to August 3, 1964, Deng Zhongyu, as the principal of Tianzhong, participated in the national work conference on political theory in colleges and secondary schools, and was received by Chairman Mao Zedong, Premier Zhou Enlai and other party and state leaders.
In the 1980s, Deng Zhongyu led the teachers and students of Tianzhong to create the glory of the college entrance examination in Tianzhong and even the entire Tianmen.
Ninety-seven years of life, seventy years of party age, Deng Zhongyu has always maintained the original intention of the communists to be honest and frugal, and still lives in the teaching dormitory built in Tianzhong in the mid-1980s.

Deng Zhongyu, whose original name was Deng Guoguang, was born on January 1, 1925 in Sitiagou, Nanzheng County (now Hanzhong City), Shaanxi Province. From elementary school to middle school, he strives to enter a first-class school and strive for a bright future.
Shortly after the end of the high school graduation examination, Deng Guoguang had been escorted by the Shaanxi Provincial Department of Education to Jiaotong University in Chongqing, Sichuan Province, but he chose Wuhan University.
In 1944, he went to Chongqing to apply for this long-desired first-class university and was admitted to the Department of Economics.
At Wuhan University, he met progressive classmates and came into contact with progressive books and periodicals. Marxist philosophy, political economy, the Xinhua Daily and The Masses of the Chinese Communist Party nourished him.
In August 1945, after the victory of the War of Resistance Against Japanese Aggression, Wuhan University moved back to Wuchang from Leshan, Sichuan. Due to financial difficulties, he took a year off from school and taught at a primary school in Chongqing. Because of his subscription to Xinhua Daily, he implicated the principal with a warning, and at the end of the first semester of that year, he was transferred to a suburban primary school. In September 1946, he saved up enough tuition to resume his studies in Wuchang, joined a progressive club, and participated in the anti-American Chiang Kai-shek student movement. In 1947, the "June 1st" massacre occurred in Wuhan University, he was kidnapped by the Kuomintang military police and got into the car, and when his classmates found out, they desperately tried to rescue him and escape from the clutches of the devil.
On December 25, 1948, he and five classmates defected to the Jianghan Liberated Area to work in the Communist Party of China's Tianjingqian County Committee, and the 23-year-old Deng Guoguang changed his name to Deng Zhongyu.
He took over Tianzhong in 1949 and became principal in 1950
On April 17, 1949, the Ezhong Specialized Bureau decided to send Deng Zhongyu to take over the Tianmen County No. 1 Junior High School together with Yu Shengzi, a Communist Party member who had been engaged in educational work in the old Liberated Areas of Shandong for many years, with the task of gaining the experience of the Party in taking over the middle schools in the Newly Liberated Areas. Before leaving, Commissioner Zhang Haifeng and Deputy Commissioner Xie Wei talked to them, emphasized the significance of the takeover, and put forward earnest hopes.
At that time, some of the people who went to the Liberated Areas with Deng Zhongyu to participate in revolutionary work were scheduled to go to Wuhan, which had not yet been liberated, and some stayed in the special office, but he was sent to work in a county middle school. He believed that he had joined the revolutionary work in the Liberated Areas and that his educational work was not revolutionary enough, and he regretted it in his heart. However, the passion to participate in the revolution in the Liberated Areas, the example of the old cadre's birth and death, and the example of arduous struggle, the organizational point out the significance of taking over the Tianmen Middle School, spurred him to embark on a new journey with a beautiful vision.
On April 21, Deng Zhongyu, as the director of teaching, together with Principal Yu Shengzi, took over the Tianmen County No. 1 Junior High School and renamed it Ezhong Tianmen Middle School. On this day, Chairman Mao and Commander-in-Chief Zhu issued an order to cross the river, and a million heroes crossed the river; on April 23, Nanjing was liberated; on May 16, Hankou was liberated; and Wuchang was liberated on the 17th. The victory of the people's revolution was inspiring, and Deng Zhongyu excitedly planted small red flags on the map of China at the entrance of the school.
The school-running experience, working methods and work style brought by President Yu Shengzi from the old liberated areas of Shandong made Deng Zhongyu feel fresh and charming. He gradually realized that education work was an integral part of revolutionary work, and gave full play to enthusiasm and creativity in work. On September 26, 1949, Yu Shengzi introduced him to the New Democratic Youth League.
In the cheers of celebrating the founding of the People's Republic of China, the school was renamed Hubei Provincial Tianmen Middle School, and Yu Shengzi and Deng Zhongyu were rated as models in the province. In April 1950, the principal was transferred to the province in Shengzi, and the 25-year-old Deng Zhongyu took over as the principal.
On May 11, 1951, Deng Zhongyu stood under the banner of the party and solemnly swore an oath to join the Communist Party of China with honor.

On July 17, Deng Zhongyu, principal of Tianmen Middle School, and the delegates were received by Chairman Mao Zedong, Premier Zhou Enlai and other party and state leaders, and took a group photo to commemorate the occasion.
Tianzhong is the first in Jingzhou and Jingzhou is the first in the province. The famous writer Qin Mu specially wrote the article "Tianmen County on the List of Champions"
In May 1978, Deng Zhongyu, who was more than half a hundred years old, was transferred back to Tianmen Middle School as the deputy principal. In December of the following year, he was appointed president and deputy secretary of the party branch.
At this time, in Tianmen Middle School, there were few backbone teachers left, and all the school-level leading cadres who understood education were transferred. Many people are worried that Deng Zhongyu, who returns to heaven, will not have any palpitations in his heart and whether he can make a difference.
Deng Zhongyu, who was given the opportunity to regain his ambitions, faced with the situation that "the east, west, south, south, and north are all stronger than the heavens", and took "restoring the historical reputation of the heavens" as the first management goal of the school to enter a new historical stage. This goal of struggle has become a powerful driving force for running Tianzhong well.
In 1980, the educational quality and college entrance examination promotion rate of the first two-year high school graduates of Tianmen Middle School ranked among the best in Jingzhou and attracted attention in the province. "Hubei Education" is titled "Comprehensive Grasp of Morality, Intelligence and Physical Fitness - Visiting Tianmen Middle School", which comprehensively introduces the achievements and experience of Tianmen Middle School in improving the quality of education.
In the autumn of 1981, Tianmen Middle School's college entrance examination results ranked among the best in the region, and the results of junior high school entrance examination jumped to the first place in the county. The county-wide education work conference was held in Shihe District, and Jiao Zhiyun, then the county magistrate, and Song Hongyu, director of the Education Bureau, asked Deng Zhongyu: "What should I do with Tianmen Middle School?" Deng Zhongyu replied emphatically: "Persist in grasping the work in an all-round way and take advantage of the victory to compete for the upper reaches." He said without hesitation: "Can't do it, I'll take a month's salary and come out to entertain!" ”
During this period, in the fall of 1981, the high school was changed from a two-year system to a three-year system. Deng Zhongyu insisted on doing things in accordance with the laws of education, explored new ways to improve the quality of education, greatly reduced the burden on students, and developed morally, intellectually, and physically in an all-round way.
In 1982, the results of the tianmen middle school college entrance examination were indeed "on a higher level", exceeding the goal of struggle. In order to thank the whole school staff for rolling up their sleeves and working hard yesterday, and encouraging everyone to climb a new peak tomorrow, Deng Zhongyu still took out all of his one-month salary of 108 yuan and handed it to the logistics department to hold a "thank you banquet" to celebrate the teachers. This unique "Thank You Banquet" is still passed down as a beautiful talk today.
"Restoring the historical reputation of Tianzhong" was realized, and Deng Zhongyu proposed to the party branch to put forward a new goal of struggle: "To build Tianmen Middle School into a first-class key middle school in the province." ”
In 1984, the quality of Tianmen secondary education and the rate of further education far exceeded the previous three sessions. After graduating from 292 classes in six classes, all of them participated in the college entrance examination, and 241 people were admitted to junior colleges, including 196 people from key colleges and universities, 9 people from secondary schools, and the proportion of admission to colleges and universities and key colleges exceeded 80% for the first time, and 215 people were admitted according to the first choice. The school has taken 6 Tsinghua, 6 Peking University, and 2 HKUST, ranking first in Jingzhou and first in Jingzhou in the province. Since 1981, Deng Zhongyu has been re-elected as the sixth and seventh vice chairmen of Tianmen County of the Chinese People's Political Consultative Conference. Since 1982, he has been rated as an outstanding party member in Jingzhou District and Tianmen County for consecutive years. On the first Teacher's Day in 1985, he was commended at the provincial level as one of the pacesetters of the tianmen county education front, and hubei daily published his photos and profiles.
Looking at the 1988 edition of the "Chronicle of Tianmen County", it is recorded: "From 1949 to 1985, Tianmen Middle School trained a total of 9983 high school and junior high school graduates, and a total of 2287 new students were sent to colleges and universities, of which 67.7% entered the national key colleges and universities, and more than 130 students participated in military cadre schools and were selected as pilots. Deng Zhongyu, the first Communist Party member among the middle school teachers in Tianmen County. From 1949 to 1985, he served as the director of teaching, vice principal and principal of Tianmen Middle School for a total of 28 years. He is rigorous in his studies, hard-working and diligent, and has made contributions to the development and growth of Tianmen Middle School and the improvement of teaching quality. ”
In 2019, the 70th anniversary of the founding of New China, the secretary of the Tianmen Municipal Party Committee specially came to Deng Zhongyu to present the "Commemorative Medal for Celebrating the 70th Anniversary of the Founding of the People's Republic of China" issued by the CPC Central Committee, the State Council and the Central Military Commission.
