Later, Boss Guo himself also explained that more than 600 paragraphs are not all-fingered cross-talk, but small songs including cross-talk, Taiping lyrics, Beijing rhyme drums and so on. Of course, Lao Guo's mouth is still unforgiving, so there is the famous little song "After saying six hundred paragraphs, scolding sounds, the artist will have three paragraphs, and a lifetime of clever arrangements." And in his early performances and works, he often mentioned that the original predecessors created more than 1,000 cross-talk, and now there are only 200 left, and the cross-talk children are too bad! Saying that crosstalk should be the same as living a life, buy a sofa today, buy a bed tomorrow, instead of selling a refrigerator today and selling a TV set tomorrow.

I don't care how many paragraphs Lao Guo will have, but these few words that Lao Guo said are very reasonable. Crosstalk has developed to the present for more than 100 years, and it is long enough to say that it is long enough. It may be due to the relatively low level of education of the artists, or it may be that the cross-talk is too complicated, in short, there are not many cross-talk paragraphs, at best, it is more than 1,000 paragraphs. It can be seen that it is not easy to "buy an industry" for cross-talk.

When it comes to "buying an industry", one of the people in the cross-talk industry that cannot be mentioned is the "Zhang Fool" we want to talk about today, Zhang Jieyao. This is truly a legendary figure in the cross-talk world. His contribution to cross-talk is huge, it can be said that he is the originator of Henan and Shaanxi cross-talk! But it is such a "great power", but it is not highly respected by practitioners in the cross-talk industry, why is this? I think it is because his old man is so talented that he may not have let people go in his eyes, and his behavior is too maverick, so that the historians of the cross-talk community or cross-talk do not know how to evaluate him.

Zhang Jieyao was born in Tianjin, his ancestral home is Shaoxing, Zhejiang, and he is a Bannerman of the Han Army. The Zhang family had been an official for generations, but when his father was in his generation, the family fell in the middle of the road. Zhang Jieyao studied in private school for a few years when he was young, and at the age of ten, he entered a Hebei Zizi Theater Troupe to learn art, but after two years of study, he escaped. He began to wander around, and later entered a mixed troupe of Peking Opera and Zizi in Henan to sing opera, and then flowed back to Beijing. In Beijing Tianqiao, he often listened to the cross-talk of "Ten Thousand Fans" and other people, and he also learned a lot. So he began a more extensive nationwide "tour." He once cooperated with Luo Caixiang and Wang Ziliang to perform cross-talk in Shanghai, Suzhou and other places. Later, he went to Nanjing Confucius Temple, Kaifeng Xiangguo Temple to perform, and then to Zhengzhou, Xuchang, Luohe, Zhumadian, Xinyang, Hankou and other places to perform. In the eleventh year of the Republic of China, he began to perform cross-talk with Xu Degui in Hankou, and soon moved to Kaifeng to perform. Later, he performed in Xuzhou, Bengbu and Nanjing. It is in this non-stop tossing and turning that Zhang Jieyao integrates the art forms of the north and the south, creates many cross-talk segments, and also shapes his eclectic performance form.

Because he went south to the north, collected a lot of new passages, wrote and acted in many new passages, brought in many new contents and new techniques to the northern cross-talk, such as learning Shanghainese, learning to sing and sell pear paste candy, etc. brought from the south, he carefully arranged and performed many new passages such as "Guan Gong Zhan Qin Qiong", "Illiterate Family Letter", "Marriage Poem", "Pan Qiaoyun's Complaint", "Twenty-Eight Houses" and so on. This is refreshing to the audience.

There are also different accounts of the origin of his nickname "Zhang Fool". One is that his performance style is sometimes pretending to be stupid. There is also a saying that when he performed in Henan, because of his superb skills, he was quite appreciated by Feng Yuxiang, who was stationed in the local area. Feng Yuxiang loved to listen to Zhang Jieyao's cross-talk, and the two were like-minded, so they finally decided to formally worship the brothers, Feng Yuxiang was nine years older than Zhang Jieyao, and the two brothers were commensurate.

It is also a strange story that a "lower nine streams" who walk the rivers and lakes to sell art and worship a brother with a big warlord can also happen to the "silly uncle", which is also a feat in the cross-talk industry.

Due to his superb skills and the patronage of Big Brother Niu X, Zhang Jieyao can be described as a double gain of fame and fortune in Henan. But when he got the money, he didn't get into bad habits or squandering like other cross-talk artists, but took out the money to buy a cemetery. This cemetery is not for himself, but a "cemetery" for cross-talk artists. The cemetery was originally built so that cross-talk artists who had died in exile could be buried. Later, Feng Yuxiang learned about his purchase of the cemetery, and said to Zhang Jieyao: "You are really a fool, what do you do with so much?" My stupid brother..." This has another origin for becoming a "zhang fool".

Zhang Fool's "weird" behavior of making people spit rice is also reflected in his teacher's inheritance. The cross-talk community attaches great importance to Shi Cheng, and without a master, it is "Hai Qing", and it is impossible to grab food with people who have Shi Cheng in this circle. Moreover, the master's name must be loud, so as to pave the way for the future development of the disciples. But for a "strange person" like Zhang Jieyao, is Shi Chenghui clear? Of course not, his old man's inheritance is also a public case!

He also wanted to worship a master so that he would not be so different. So someone introduced Gao Wenyuan (Gao Deming's father). But Gao Wenyuan looked down on Zhang Jieyao and turned around and left. Zhang Jieyao saw that Gao Wenyuan's move was not stalking, but prostrated his head three times at the chair where Gao Wenyuan was sitting just now, and when he went out, he said that he was Gao Wenyuan's apprentice!

Although the silly uncle is basically self-taught and does not need any master, the people in the circle do not think so. The more Zhang Jieyao is angry, the more the artists in the circle want to exclude him, because everyone does not recognize Zhang Jieyao's master's inheritance. When Zhang Fool saw that his peers were so bullying, he changed his name to "Zhang Jizu" and his brother's name to "Zhang Jizong". The implication is too obvious: Don't you look down on me? I don't care because I zhang someone is the ancestor of the "funny industry"! His name change can be described as a sensation in the cross-talk industry, and he directly became the public enemy of the cross-talk industry.

For the resolution of this incident, I have seen two versions, one is that Zhang Shouchen's corresponding peers have called for zhang Jieyao to come forward to repair Zhang Jieyao. Zhang Shouchen directly changed the middle word in the apprentice's name to "Bao". Because Zhang Jieyao is also known as "Zhang Baohua", "Bao" and "Bao" are homophonous, meaning "short" Zhang Jieyao's generation. Of course, this is also the origin of the "Shou" generation of apprentices who are "treasure" characters.

Another version is that Zhang Shouchen came forward to calm things down, communicate with Zhang Jieyao, and praise Zhang Jieyao for "stupid uncle all over the mouth", acknowledging Zhang Jieyao's "de" character, of course, "Zhang Jizu" was also changed back to Zhang Jieyao.

Great contribution

Zhang Shouchen's contribution to the cross-talk community is very huge. He not only fulfilled the responsibility of "door chief" and safeguarded the interests and unity of the cross-talk circle, but also contributed a lot of creations and "purchased" many industries for the cross-talk community. Although Zhang Silly Ye was one hundred and eighteen thousand miles away from Zhang Shou in terms of behavior and handling, in terms of "purchasing industry", his old man was no worse than Zhang Shou.

Many of the passages of Master Hou Baolin, who we are familiar with now, are adapted from Zhang Jieyao's works, such as "Guan Gong Zhan Qin Qiong", people from various provinces come out to go to the toilet in the middle of the night, Shanghainese and so on. Other new passages such as "Noisy Gongtang" (Drama Fan County Governor), "Five Elements Poem", "Luo Cheng's Drama Sable Cicada", "Zhang Fei Beat Yan Song", "Illiterate Family Letter", "Marriage Poem", "Pan Qiaoyun's Complaint", "Monkey Trick", "Learning To Fall", "Imposter", "Twenty-Eight Houses" and many other new passages. These traditional passages are still staged in small theaters today. In the performance, Zhang Jieyao was entrusted with selling well, pretending to be stupid and full of stupidity, and the school girl, the old lady, the Shanghai businessman, and the Henan artist looked like and resembled, but the picture was exquisite.

In 1941, Zhang Jieyao and the drum king Liu Baoquan went to Shanghai to perform together, at this time Zhang Jieyao, whose cross-talk skills had reached its peak, was extremely popular in Shanghai, and the Shanghai audience specially presented him with the pennant of "Man Qian's Legacy". Man Qian, Dongfang Shuoye, which from another angle put him in the position of cross-talk master.

After liberation, Zhang Jieyao and his family settled in Xi'an, and he also became one of the founders of Northwest Xiangsheng with Zhang Kuowang and others. In 1961, Hou Baolin invited Zhang Jieyao to Beijing to give a lecture and record, and Hou Baolin and Liu Baorui personally praised him, and Zhang Jieyao recorded eight cross-talks of "Guan Gong Zhan Qin Qiong", "Luo Cheng's Drama Sable Cicada", "Zhang Fei Playing Yan Song", "Six Months", "Henan Opera", "Standing Ma Chao", "Dialect", and "Wine Poems". Among them, "Guan Gong Zhan Qin Qiong" became one of his masterpieces after being adapted by Hou Baolin, and this cross-talk is also one of the favorite cross-talks of leaders in Zhongnanhai. Decades later, Wang Qianxiang and Li Zengrui also performed "Luo Cheng Plays Sable Cicada". After Liu Baorui learned the "wine poem", he also performed on the Central People's Radio. Not to mention whether you have heard these passages or not, just because Hou Baolin personally measured Zhang Jieyao's work, we also know Zhang Silly's ability.

The one who is different in the middle is Zhang Jieyao

Zhang Jieyao has performed a total of 429 cross-talk in his lifetime, which is absolutely unsurpassed in the cross-talk industry. Of course, this number is not the fool's own nonsense, this is well documented! In the 1950s, the Yangguang Rap Group specially gave Zhang Jieyao statistics (see annex). This number should be able to surpass that of Zhang Shouchen, another giant in the industry, which can be called a record in the history of cross-talk.

Zhang Jieyao is a high eight buckets and has contributed to the development of cross-talk. But one of the "disgraceful" things he did was recorded in history, that is, during the Chinese War of Resistance, he accepted the invitation of the Japanese and went to Japan to make a movie "The Road to Peace in East Asia". At that time, many artists were invited in Japan, but they were all rejected, and only Zhang Jieyao accepted the invitation. Whether he wants to do this to compete with the cross-talk community or indulge in art like Cheng Dieyi, it is impossible to know. But this act has obviously hurt the feelings of the Chinese people.
