A wild giant panda suspected of being ill in Baoxing County, Ya'an, Sichuan Province, died after ineffective rescue.
On March 14, staff from the Forestry Bureau of Baoxing County, Sichuan Province, confirmed the news to the surging news (www.thepaper.cn). According to the staff, on February 20, the giant panda was found in the wild and sent back to the county for treatment. Chengdu Giant Panda Breeding Base sent special personnel to rescue, but eventually died after rescue was ineffective.
The staff member told the surging news that the giant panda is more than 10 years old, and the specific cause of death is still unclear, "the test report has not yet been obtained", but from the situation of the accumulation of fluid in the chest cavity of the giant panda at that time, the preliminary inference is that it is due to illness.
According to Sichuan Observation, on February 20, a wild giant panda in Baoxing County, Ya'an stayed in a miscellaneous forest for several hours, remaining motionless. After observation, the giant panda had no external injuries on the surface, but had been running a clear nose, and the spirit was not good, and the preliminary judgment was suspected of being ill. After receiving the news, the local forest public security, forestry and other department staff rushed to the scene, put the giant panda into a cage and transported it back to Baoxing County, where the local forestry department treated the giant panda.
The surging news noted that due to the large number of wild giant pandas in the territory, Baoxing County is not the first time to find a giant panda that is sick and injured and needs help.
According to the Sichuan News Network reported on May 6, 2016: In the process of picking wild vegetables, villagers in Baoxing, Ya'an, found a wild giant panda with obvious injuries to its ears, back, right hind legs, and tail. The injured panda was male, 4 years old, weighing 44 kilograms, and was sent to the Ya'an base of the China Giant Panda Conservation and Research Center for treatment. After the surgical experts of Ya'an People's Hospital consulted and tried all possible ways of rescue, the giant panda was still too seriously injured and the rescue was ineffective, and died at 14:50 on the same day. According to expert analysis, this giant panda may have been injured by other beasts of prey.
Baoxing County, Sichuan Province, is the place where the world's first giant panda was scientifically discovered. According to the official website of the Propaganda Department of Baoxing County, Baoxing County is located in the transition zone from the western edge of the Sichuan Basin to the Qinghai-Tibet Plateau, and is a place where diverse animals and plants such as giant pandas and tung trees thrive. More than 130 years ago, french missionary and biologist Jean Pierre Armand David discovered the giant panda here and made the world's first giant panda model specimen, introducing China's giant panda to the world for the first time and making Baoxing famous.
According to the Sichuan Daily, more than 90% of Baoxing County's land area has now been included in the Giant Panda National Park. In 2017, the relevant person in charge of the Forestry Department of Sichuan Province said that the fourth panda survey found that every township in Baoxing County had giant pandas and giant panda habitats.
