Liu Kun created and performed

Created and performed by Liu Kun, the solo dance "I Start from Here" focuses on a late-night scene when Chen Wangdao translates the Communist Manifesto, reflecting his psychological state from anxiety to firmness in the early days of his awakening of faith by showing his concentration when translating the work and the scene of the dream extension afterwards.

"Chance Encounter" with Chen Wangdao

The source of inspiration for the creation was a "chance encounter" with Chen Wangdao. In June 2020, Liu Kun participated in the centralized training of the Zhejiang Provincial Stage Art "1111" Talent Program held in Yiwu, Zhejiang. During this period, Liu Kun visited the former residence of Chen Wangdao in Fenshuitang Village, Yiwu.

"During this trip to Yiwu, I learned the story of Mr. Chen Wangdao. As a party member, a strong sense of mission drove me to praise this feat in a form different from the written expression. "Holding up the whole stage alone, Liu Kun felt a lot of pressure." It is difficult to reconstruct the scene from a hundred years ago, to understand his determination to find a way for China at that time, and to consider the resonance of today's audience. ”

"Ink when brown sugar" as an entry point

The repertoire starts from the most famous "ink when brown sugar" as an entry point. In the early spring of 1920, Chen Wangdao returned to Fenshuitang Village and began translating the Communist Manifesto day and night in an undisturbed firewood room. The mother saw that her son was working hard to translate the book, specially wrapped the rice dumplings and took a plate of brown sugar to send, and told her son not to forget to dip the brown sugar to eat, which expected that the son, because of his obsessive work, actually dipped the ink as brown sugar and ate it, and said to the mother that "it is very sweet." It turns out that faith also has a taste, and it is very sweet and sweet.

The subsequent unfolding of the scene takes the form of artistic reprocessing - due to the day and night translation, Chen Wangdao often unconsciously falls asleep and wakes up from the dream. When he was sober, he immersed himself in the specific matter of translating the Communist Manifesto, and after falling asleep, he fell into the social reality of Deep Suffering and Destruction in China. This repeated alternation of reality and dreams makes Chen Wangdao also repeatedly struggle and tangle in despair, hope, expectation, doubt and determination, and finally strengthen his faith.

When you eat the ink in your mouth, the Communist Manifesto and the dappled translation table in your hand are real; dreams are virtual, but the social environment seen in dreams is real, and the sense of repression in dreams is also real. "The combination of virtual and real stems from facts and is higher than facts." The whole work is realized in this complex switching, through the multi-dimensional polishing of dance art.

The hundred-year journey is magnificent, and the original intention of the hundred-year journey has lasted for a long time. Chen Wangdao's communist road has remained unchanged since that moment, and has undertaken the mission of a propagator, practitioner and adherent of Marxism with practice. "As a literary and art worker, I have always adhered to my original intention since I first appeared on the stage, practiced both moral and artistic cultivation, and consciously integrated the pursuit of personal ideals into the cause of the country and the nation," Liu Kun said, hoping to interpret the power of faith and original intention through the form of dance.
