On January 7, local time, in Tokyo, Japan, a passerby passed an empty outdoor restaurant.

A girl under the age of 10 in Tokyo has reportedly been infected with a mutated coronavirus found in the UK. She is a close contact of a man in his 40s in Tokyo who became ill on 15 January and was diagnosed after being examined, while the girl was diagnosed on the 19th after examination.

A genetic analysis of the virus conducted by the National Institute of Infectious Diseases in Japan found that the girl was infected with a variant of the new coronavirus found in the United Kingdom, but was asymptomatic.

Japan's Kyodo News Agency quoted Japan's Ministry of Health, Labor and Welfare as saying that Japan may have already erupted in the community infection of this mutated virus.

So far, however, the Japanese authorities have found no other cases of mutated virus infection in more than 1,400 test samples in Tokyo, and the head of the Ministry of Public Welfare said that he "does not believe that the scope of infection is expanding."

In addition, the Ministry of Public Welfare also announced that a woman in her 30s who entered Japan from the United Kingdom on the 10th was also diagnosed with the mutated virus. The woman developed symptoms on the 13th and is currently hospitalized.
