Guangzhou, 29 Oct (China News Network) -- The Pearl River Water Conservancy Committee of the Ministry of Water Resources (hereinafter referred to as the "Pearl River Commission") released a news release on 29 October that in order to consolidate the results of the delineation of the scope of river and lake management, according to the work arrangements of the Ministry of Water Resources, the committee has completed a spot check and review of the results of the delineation of the management scope of rivers and lakes in the first national water census directory of the Pearl River Basin.

According to the Pearl River Commission, the delineation of the scope of river and lake management is an important basic work, which is directly related to the overall situation of river and lake management and water conservancy reform and development. In order to properly manage the "basin of water", the committee organized technical forces to strictly follow the "Water Law", "Flood Prevention Law", "River Management Regulations" and other laws and regulations, relevant standards and norms and plans, to verify the management scope of all rivers and lakes above the basin (rivers with a basin area of more than 1,000 square kilometers, lakes with a water surface area of more than 1 square kilometer) on a river-by-lake basis, section by section, piece by piece, and conducted spot checks and reviews of rivers below the scale, and reviewed a total of 3770 rivers and 20 lakes. The total length of the river is about 127,000 kilometers, and the sampling scope covers all county-level administrative regions of 62 prefecture-level cities (prefectures) in 8 provinces (autonomous regions) in the Pearl River Basin.

The relevant person in charge of the Pearl River Commission said that after this review, it was found that there were various problems in the delineation of the management scope of rivers and lakes, such as lowering the design flood standard, deliberately avoiding buildings, and the river and lake management scope lines were not connected, and feedback was given to the water administrative departments of each province (autonomous region) in a single way.

The person in charge revealed that in the next step, the Pearl River Commission will guide and urge all provinces (autonomous regions) in the river basin to rectify the problem of delineating the management scope of rivers and lakes, and re-perform the announcement procedures to ensure that the results meet relevant laws and regulations, standards and specifications and planning requirements.
