Zhou Shen returned to sing "Moonlight Lover" and the composer Tan Dun personally conducted
On the evening of October 19, the opening ceremony of the 4th Guangdong-Hong Kong-Macao Greater Bay Area Arts and Culture Festival (hereinafter referred to as "Arts and Culture Festival"), co-hosted by the Ministry of Culture and Tourism, the People's Government of Guangdong Province, the Government of the Hong Kong Special Administrative Region and the Government of the Macau S.A.R. Region, was held at the Hong Kong Coliseum.
The Guangdong-Hong Kong-Macao Greater Bay Area Arts and Culture Festival Orchestra, comprising the Hong Kong Philharmonic Orchestra, Guangzhou Symphony Orchestra, Shenzhen Symphony Orchestra and Macao Orchestra, under the baton of renowned composer Tan Dun, presents the world premiere of the symphonic poem "Sound River".
The Hong Kong Coliseum was packed that night, and tickets for the show were sold out early in the morning. Guests and representatives from Guangdong, Hong Kong and Macao, as well as music fans from all over the country attended the opening ceremony and watched the performances.
Tan Dun's latest masterpiece presents "Sound Silk Road"
Zhou Shen's singing is integrated with elements of Dishui Nanyin
"Sound River" was created by Tan Dun over a period of 12 years. From Europe, through Arabia and Central Asia, to the Guangdong-Hong Kong-Macao Greater Bay Area, he draws on the best of the music and culture of different countries along the Silk Road, and presents them on stage in the form of 16 short videos.
On stage, the orchestra is arranged in an "S" shape, like a curved river. Light, ethereal or loud music flows slowly from the "river", dialogues with the short videos on the big screen, and also adds different musical elements such as hoome, drama, and singing, to show the artist's understanding of the "Silk Road of Sound".
In this performance, even mobile phones, which are not normally allowed to appear on the stage, have become an important musical instrument in Tan Dun's works. In one of the movements, the musicians, at the direction of the conductor, uniformly took out their mobile phones and played a pre-recorded audio of bird calls, making the audience feel as if they were in the forest.
At the end of the show, pop singer Zhou Shen sang a song on stage as a special guest. Zhou Shen's singing also incorporated the elements of Guangdong's "Dishui Nanyin", and the familiar Lingnan Cantonese rhyme made many audiences nod their heads and feel novel, which also pushed the atmosphere of the concert to a climax.
"This is an audible Silk Road. Each instrument tells a story. In an interview with reporters, Tan Dun shared that over the years, he has captured many disappearing sounds, instruments and cultures along the Silk Road, and integrated them into film, visuals, theater and symphony, trying to present a wonderful audio-visual experience. This river of sound, which is also futuristic and technological, is a unique perspective on human survival and development. ”
"It's so fascinating, it's hard to describe how I feel about this concert, it's a symphony, it's like a musical, it's a video, it's singing, it's a combination of classical and modern music elements, and it's a sense of surprise." Miss Wang, the audience at the scene, kept sighing, and used a few "enjoyable" to describe her feelings.
"A novel performance experience"
"This is a new attempt, which will not only break the audience's stereotype of the symphony, but also be a particularly novel experience for many performers." Before the performance began, Wang Liang, Second Deputy Concertmaster of the Hong Kong Philharmonic Orchestra, who has collaborated with Tan Dun many times, said, "He is a whimsical artist, and he always has a lot of ideas during rehearsals, and it is a wonderful experience to work with him." ”
This time, the symphony orchestras of Guangdong, Hong Kong and Macao performed this new work on the same stage, and many artists frankly said that "it is a rare opportunity".
Huang Yichong, the principal horn of the Guangzhou Symphony Orchestra, joined the performance as a horn player this time, and he told reporters, "The exchanges and cooperation of the Greater Bay Area Orchestra are very close, and everyone is a professional musician, and they have a tacit understanding with each other, and the run-in is very smooth. ”
According to Chen Qing, director of the Guangzhou Symphony Orchestra, the Guangdong-Hong Kong-Macao Greater Bay Area Culture and Arts Festival Orchestra has undertaken many important performances before, "Each orchestra has its own distinctive style, and I believe that such exchanges and performances can continue to promote the cultural integration and development of the Greater Bay Area." ”
