Jakarta, 10 Feb (Xinhua) -- A magnitude 6.5 earthquake struck the western waters of Bengolu Province on the Indonesian island of Sumatra on February 10. No casualties or property damage have been reported.
According to the website of the Indonesian Meteorological, Climatic and Geophysical Bureau, the earthquake occurred at 19:52 Jakarta time (20:52 Beijing time), and the epicenter was located 80 kilometers southwest of Ngano Island in Bengkulu Province, 216 kilometers away from The city of Bengulu, the capital of Bengkulu Province, with a depth of 10 kilometers.
The Indonesian Meteorological, Climatic and Geophysical Agency has recorded a slight to moderate degree of earthquake sensation in islands and villages closer to the epicenter, as well as a weak earthquake in the city of Bengkulu. The bureau did not issue a tsunami warning about the quake, but warned of possible aftershocks near the epicenter and reminded residents to calm down and remain vigilant.
According to the U.S. Geological Survey Earthquake Information Network, the magnitude of the earthquake is 6.2.
