"Dean Mother" Li Yan: Let every life live with more dignity

Beijing News Express (reporter Chen Lin) On July 9, the Central Propaganda Department held a meeting of Chinese and foreign journalists, inviting 4 representatives of grass-roots party members from the civil affairs front to exchange views on the spot. Li Yan, secretary of the party branch and president of the Zhengzhou Children's Welfare Institute in Henan Province, is the "dean mother" of more than 740 orphans and disabled children in the welfare home. She said, "It is my belief that orphans and disabled children can be cared for and have happiness. ”

"Our boys here are all surnamed Zheng, the girls are surnamed Zhou, and this place is also called 'Zheng Zhou Courtyard.'" In 2006, Li Yan was responsible for the preparation of the new site of the Zhengzhou Children's Welfare Institute, and in May 2008, the welfare home was officially opened.

For more than ten years, Li Yan has always aimed at the development goal of building a national strong hospital, and strives to provide a good environment for the healthy growth of children. "We have established the first newly admitted children's treatment ward in Henan Province, Angel Yijia, the first cerebral palsy rehabilitation center in Henan Province to cooperate with medical institutions, established the first special education school in Henan Province sponsored by welfare institutions, and also set up a blue cane parent club to help children in distress in the community, which has rescued more than 5,000 children in various difficulties, so that more than 1,200 children have fulfilled their 'dream of going home' and more than 1,000 children have realized their 'healthy dreams'."

Li Yan introduced that there is a child in the welfare home named Zheng Xiaohui, who is paralyzed in his lower limbs, but he loves to learn. He said to Li Yan, "Dean Mom, I want to go to school, I can not drink water when I am in class, I don't have to go to the toilet after class." Li Yan said that after listening to the child's words, she cried at that time. With the help of multiple departments, the child entered the classroom as he wished. On Mother's Day, he also specially painted a painting of washing his mother's feet for Li Yan, who brought the painting to the scene. "Now the child is in his 20s and has lived an independent and happy life in Shanghai."

In addition to Zheng Xiaohui, there is also Zheng Shaodong, who has been critically ill three times, and he finally found an adoptive family. Cao Yuanyuan, who has severe cerebral palsy, has taken care of herself after years of rehabilitation training and found a foster mother. "The girls who grew up here have entered the marriage hall one after another, and after attending their weddings, I have participated in their children's full moon wine." Li Yan said that she was upgraded from "dean's mother" to "dean's grandmother".

More than 98 percent of the more than 740 children in the welfare home are disabled or ill children, mainly cerebral palsy, Down syndrome, and intellectual and physical disabilities. Li Yan said that for such special children, it is necessary to consider the advantages of each child, and according to the situation of each child, teach according to the talent and precise policies. If the child in the hospital has normal intelligence but physical problems, in addition to learning culture classes, the welfare home will teach him to learn painting, handicrafts, pottery, computers and other skills. For children with low intelligence and no physical problems, they are trained in cleaning, security, greening and so on.

"No matter what kind of child, we don't give up, we are full of hope for them, we hope to give them a good future." Li Yan said, "I often tell my colleagues that because of these children, we have to thank these children, do more things for them, do not give up, do not abandon every life, so that every life can live with more dignity." ”
