Speaking of Zhang Xinzhe, many people's first reaction is: the prince of love songs, his songs such as "Love is Like a Tide" and "Love is a Word" are extremely popular. As everyone knows, in addition to being a singer, he is also a "deep hidden" collector.
On the afternoon of September 17th, Zhang Xinzhe appeared in shanghai library with his new book "Minchao - History of Moon Card Images", where he gave a lecture on "Famous Artists' New Works Series" and held a dialogue with Professor Gu Zheng of the School of Journalism of Fudan University and Filmmaker Shen Yi, interpreting Shanghai's urban cultural symbols and their significance to today through different perspectives such as collection, monthly cards, images, and photography.
The "Famous New Works Series" is hosted by Shanghai Library, Shanghai People's Fine Arts Publishing House and Beijing Sancai Yuantong Cultural Development Co., Ltd. At the scene of the conversation, Zhang Xinzhe shared his collection story. From his love for the city of Shanghai, to collecting prints of the monthly cards, to the chance discovery of the existence of the original manuscripts of the monthly cards, Zhang Xinzhe began to collect and study the category of monthly cards.
He initiated and organized the exhibition "Minchao - Rare Paintings of Moon Cards and Fashion Trends of the Twentieth Century" and published the book "Minchao - History of Moon Cards Images", which systematically sorted out and interpreted the monthly cards in his collection, and compared the monthly cards and cheongsam in the same time dimension, more intuitively presenting the cultural trends of the first half of the twentieth century.
Invented in the 19th century, photography has been closely related to the development and change of Western cities since its birth. Like the monthly card, the photographic works also reveal the image information of urban changes and trend development, and photography also plays a pivotal role in the creation of the monthly card. Professor Gu Zheng's book "Urban Expressions" uses the street as a perspective to study how those important photographers in the history of world photography have used their lenses to record cities.
The book brings together more than 300 representative works by 37 master photographers, recording the urban photography practices of photographers from all over the world such as Brasser, Robert Capa, Vivian Mailer, Bresson, Robert Frank, Araki Anderson and other photographers in the late 19th and early 21st centuries. At the same time, the book also attempts to answer these questions: How do the amazing and complex changes in cities inspire photographers in the process of urbanization? How does this inspiration manifest itself in photographers photographing cities?
Shen Yi asked questions about the relationship between the moon card and photography from the perspective of the filmmaker, and led two speakers, Zhang Xinzhe and Gu Zheng, to discuss the relationship between the content of the month card and the urban focus of photography.
