Today, the wrinkled-lip shark is difficult to see off the coast of Qingdao. More than ten years ago, in order to protect this rare local marine life, some local fishermen and seafood restaurants in Qingdao specially sent the small wrinkled lip sharks that were caught or purchased to Qingdao Underwater World, so that we could carry out professional conservation and display them to the public. We would like to sincerely thank these caring people who are aware of the protection of marine resources.
In recent years, we have launched a research project on artificial conservation of the wrinkled lip shark with remarkable results. One-third of the wrinkled-lip sharks on display are small sharks that are two or three years old and fifty or sixty centimeters long, and they have been successfully bred in the past few years. Qingdao Underwater World minimizes fishing from nature or imports from the outside world, adheres to independent conservation, feeds back the ocean with practical actions, and gives back to our Mother Bay --- Jiaozhou Bay.
Marine environmental protection, can not be delayed
On the left side of the "Undersea Corridor", there is a "Biome of Jiaozhou Bay" theme concept display area. Here, novel and eye-catching display boards and rare exhibits are used to interpret and advocate people to care for the ocean and protect Jiaozhou Bay, which is in line with the concept of "leading people to understand the ocean and caring for the ocean" that Qingdao Underwater World has always adhered to.
Jiaozhou Bay is a semi-enclosed shallow bay located in the southern part of the Shandong Peninsula. She witnessed qingdao's transformation from a small fishing village to a modern metropolis. However, with the continuous development of Qingdao's economy and the acceleration of the pace of building a "bay-type city", the area of Jiaozhou Bay is shrinking, and the amount of moisture and biological species is also decreasing. The area of Jiaozhou Bay has been reduced by one-third, and the number of biological species has been reduced by 41 species.
The "Jiaozhou Bay Marine Life Theme Exhibition" launched by Qingdao Underwater World in the new exhibition area of the "Underwater Corridor" aims to let people understand the changing Jiaozhou Bay through a unique display method, and call on people to further improve environmental awareness and protect Qingdao Mother Bay. Some of the exhibits are artificially bred fish species, which are almost invisible in Jiaozhou Bay. Marine litter display tank
In this transformation, Qingdao Underwater World specially launched the first marine garbage display tank in China. In the display tank, a large turtle is entangled in discarded fishing nets, and the surface of the water is filled with all kinds of plastic garbage, surrounding the surface of the sea turtle. More than eight million tons of plastic enter the ocean every year, and many plastics are not biodegradable, and even ordinary plastic bottles take 450 to 500 years to completely decompose. Large plastics, especially fishing nets and ropes, can entangle marine animals to accompany them to the end of their lives, from small plankton to whales, plastic waste affects nearly 700 species, and about 100,000 marine organisms are killed by plastic every year. To date, all turtle species, more than two-thirds of seal species, one-third of whale species, and one-quarter of seabird species have been severely troubled by plastic in the ocean, and they live in pain every day.
Microplastics are currently found in more than 20 common economic fish species, and 90% of fish samples. At present, as many as 9 different kinds of microplastics have also been found in the human body. More than 80% of the marine litter is plastic waste, and by displaying the plastic garbage piled up in the tank, coupled with the introduction of the marine garbage theme display board around the display tank, it warns visitors of the impact of marine plastic waste on the marine environment, marine life and human life, and our harm to the environment will eventually react to ourselves.
I believe that tourists will shake their minds after watching this shocking display cylinder, and they did not expect that the plastic garbage discarded at will cause such serious consequences.
The plastic waste in the display tank was collected by underwater world employees from the seaside of Huiquan Bay. As a scenic spot with the responsibility of protecting the ocean, Qingdao Underwater World has always maintained a sense of responsibility, actively appealed for issues such as limiting "plastic" and prohibiting the use of disposable plastic products in the world, and strived to promote practice. Since October 23, 2019, Qingdao Underwater World will no longer provide disposable plastic bags for tourists who shop in scenic spots, and advocate the use of reusable environmental protection bags.
Recently, the General Office of the Ministry of Commerce issued the "Notice on Further Strengthening the Control of Plastic Pollution in the Commercial Field", announcing the phased task of banning plastic and limiting plastics. It is required that by the end of 2020, the catering industry nationwide will ban the use of non-degradable disposable plastic straws, and the use of non-degradable disposable plastic tableware will be prohibited in the catering dine-in services of built-up areas of cities above the prefecture level; by the end of 2022, star-rated hotels, hotels and other places nationwide will no longer take the initiative to provide disposable plastic supplies; by the end of 2025, the scope of implementation will be expanded to all hotels, hotels, and homestays, and the use of non-degradable disposable plastic tableware will be prohibited in the catering and dine-in services of the built-up areas of the county.
