Agence France-Presse (AFP) reported on August 1 that Indonesian officials said on Sunday that two Sumatran tigers were recovering at the Jakarta Zoo after contracting the new coronavirus and that they were investigating the causes of the disease in these critically endangered animals.

Tino, 9, and Harry, 12, tested positive for COVID-19 after developing flu-like symptoms, breathing difficulties and loss of appetite in mid-July, but have recovered after receiving treatment.

Suzi Marsitawati, director of the Jakarta Parks and Forests Authority, said: "We traced all the nurses and zookeepers [in contact with the tigers] and no one was infected with COVID-19 when the two tigers were sick, so we are still trying to find the source. ”
