As a durable consumer product, the initial purchase cost and subsequent use and maintenance costs of the car are a large expense, which is closely related to the daily life of the owner.

To measure the maintenance cost of a brand or a car, there is a car zero-to-integer ratio coefficient. The so-called "zero ratio" refers to the ratio of the sum of the prices of all the accessories of a vehicle to the sales price of the whole vehicle. The price of accessories directly determines the level of maintenance costs, even if the same new car price is the same, but if consumers buy a model with a higher zero-to-integer coefficient, it means that the subsequent use process may need to pay a relatively higher maintenance cost. Therefore, the zero-to-whole ratio has also become an important reference for many consumers to buy a car.

Recently, the relevant agencies released the latest issue of the auto zero-to-round ratio data research report. The report shows that Volvo's zero-to-piece ratio coefficient has dropped significantly, of which the flagship luxury model S90 has the most obvious decline, and the XC60, which entered the list for the first time this year, has also achieved the best result of the lowest zero-to-whole ratio in the same class.

The sharp decline in the zero-to-integer ratio coefficient shows that Volvo's maintenance costs have dropped sharply, breaking the spell that the maintenance cost of luxury car brands has always been high, and bringing tangible benefits to millions of domestic Volvo car owners in terms of car use.

Luxury brand car Volvo fell the most

Since April 2014, the China Insurance Industry Association and the China Automobile Repair Association have begun to study the zero-to-integer ratio data of automobiles and regularly publish research reports. This year is already the 12th issue.

On June 2, the Automotive Technology Research Institute of China Insurance Research Institute (hereinafter referred to as China Insurance Research Institute) released the "12th Automotive Zero-to-Integer Ratio Data Research Report". In the case of the overall zero-to-integer coefficient rising, Volvo became the brand with the largest zero-to-integer ratio ratio decline among luxury brand cars.

The report of China Insurance Research Institute pointed out that the "auto zero-to-round ratio 100 index" and "common parts burden 100 index" rose significantly in this period. The "Auto Zero-to-Whole Ratio 100 Index" was 350.93%, an increase of 13.96 percentage points over the previous period; the "100 Index of Commonly Used Accessories Burden" was 17.31, an increase of 1.15 over the previous period. The report pointed out that the 300,000 yuan to 500,000 yuan model of cars has the highest zero-to-whole ratio. These models are basically luxury brands, with a total of 12 models, involving Volvo XC60 and S90 respectively.

According to the report of China Automobile Research Institute, the zero-to-integer ratio coefficient of Volvo's flagship model S90 decreased by 123.55 percentage points (21.35%) compared with the previous period, to 455.20%. It is lower than the 650.24% of the Lexus ES model in the same class, 605.18% of the Mercedes-Benz E-Class, and 523.11% of the BMW 5 Series. Volvo's main model XC60 has a zero-to-integer ratio factor of 466.60%, which is lower than the 700.72% of the BMW X3 in the same class, 614.69% of the Mercedes-Benz GLC class, and 479.20% of the Audi Q5L, which is the lowest in the same class.

In terms of common accessories, Volvo is also significantly lower than the luxury brand cars of the same class. According to the report of China Insurance Research Institute, the volvo S90 common accessories burden index dropped from 24.93 to 21.55, a direct drop of 13.56%, lower than the 29.04 of the Mercedes-Benz E-Class, the 25.72 of the Lexus ES, and the 21.77 of the BMW 5 Series. The Volvo XC60 common accessory burden index is 20.07, which is much lower than the 27.77 of the Mercedes-Benz GRC, the 27.27 of the BMW X3 and the 26.72 of the Audi Q5L.

Volvo makes consumers affordable

In order to solve the luxury brand car repair cost, so that consumers can afford to buy, in the past few years, Volvo launched a new service concept, more quality assurance policies, and constantly optimize the price of spare parts.

Since 2019, Volvo has reduced the price of more than 123,000 parts, involving nearly 1,000 product categories, with an average reduction of more than 20%, including batteries, spark plugs, brake pads and other parts with high replacement frequency. More than 11,000 parts fell by more than 50%.

The total brake pump and brake caliper of the brake system have a price reduction of more than 45%, and the vacuum booster pump, brake oil, brake disc, brake pad oil, machine filter, air filter, battery, tire, etc. have a large price reduction. By continuously optimizing the price of spare parts, the user experience and car cost have been further improved.

According to the report, the sum of the prices of 18 commonly used accessories in the 100 sample models has increased by 71 models compared with March 2019. The Volvo is one of the few models to decline.

In order to meet the needs of car owners, Volvo also launched the after-sales service concept of "making safety and more comprehensive", as well as six service commitments, including parts lifetime insurance, appointment fast maintenance, free pick-up and delivery of cars, ultra-long business, exclusive scooters, and all-weather protection, so that Volvo owners can enjoy more convenience.

With the continuous enrichment of product lines, the continuous improvement of brand service concepts, and the continuous decline in the cost of cars, Volvo's market competitiveness has steadily improved. In the past two years, Volvo's sales in China have reached new highs. Just this past May, Volvo's monthly sales in Chinese mainland reached 16,873 units, a record high in the same period of history, achieving double-digit growth for 14 consecutive months. From January to May this year, Volvo Chinese mainland sold 78,434 units, an increase of 55.3% year-on-year.

In order to maintain the increment, Volvo continues to improve the service experience of the whole life cycle of consumer cars, whether it is maintenance costs, products and after-sales service, Volvo has been constantly calculating every account for users. The sharp reduction of the zero-to-whole ratio not only helps users to support the "face" and "lizi", but also helps users cover the "money bag". As one of the important reference factors for consumers to buy a car, the zero-to-whole ratio also has a profound impact on the entire automotive industry and related industries.

The announcement of the auto zero integral ratio coefficient helps to reveal some contradictory pricing phenomena between the front end and the back end in the pricing process of the automotive industry chain, so that the owner can more clearly understand the relationship between the maintenance price of the replacement parts and the price of the vehicle, make the maintenance price more transparent, and then understand the difference in maintenance costs between various brands and models, and enhance the consumer's right to choose and know to a greater extent. At the same time, the announcement of the zero-to-integer ratio coefficient also provides an important scientific basis for the healthy development of the two industries of automobile insurance and automobile maintenance.
