On the afternoon of October 28, the Ministry of National Defense held a regular press conference, and Colonel Tan Kefei, deputy director of the Information Bureau of the Ministry of National Defense and spokesman of the Ministry of National Defense, answered reporters' questions.
Reporter: According to reports, the US Navy recently issued a new strategic guide saying that the Chinese Navy is expanding its scale capabilities and becoming the world's largest fleet, and China is a step-by-step challenge. The US Secretary of the Navy stressed that in the future, it will maintain the strength superiority of the US Navy and strengthen the combat readiness of the US military. Some analysts believe that this is the first time that the US side has admitted that the Military Strength of the Sino-US Navy has been equal. What is China's comment on this?
Tan Kefei: Some people in the United States are trying to hype up the "Chinese military threat" through ulterior motives, which is essentially to create an excuse for expanding its military strength and increasing military spending, and its real intention is to maintain military hegemony on a global scale. We strongly oppose that.
The world's bitter hegemonism has been around for a long time. Relying on its super military strength, the US side often ignores international law and the basic norms governing international relations, frequently launches wars, and creates separatist confrontations. For some time, the United States has mistakenly regarded China as its "biggest competitor" and "systemic challenge" and adopted the so-called "maximum pressure" policy. Whoever clings to the sword will be wounded by the sword. This kind of risky behavior of suppressing others and striving for victory will not only continue to push up the risk of confrontation between the two countries and two armies, endanger regional and world peace and stability, but also ultimately harm others and harm themselves. The recent underwater collision of a U.S. nuclear submarine is a clear proof. We reiterate here that the US side must take the concerns of all parties seriously, adopt a responsible attitude, give a detailed explanation of this incident as soon as possible, and give a satisfactory account to the international community and regional countries.
President Xi Jinping pointed out: "Standing at a new historical starting point, China will adhere to the path of peaceful development and always be a builder of world peace; adhere to the road of reform and opening up, and always be a contributor to global development; and adhere to the road of multilateralism and always be a defender of international order." "China firmly pursues a defensive national defense policy and will never follow the old road of pursuing hegemony and "a strong country must be hegemonic." The Chinese military has always been a staunch force in safeguarding world peace and stability and serving the building of a community with a shared future for mankind.
If we always use the old engine of the Cold War era, we will never be able to catch up with the new journey of world peace and development. We urge the US side to abandon the outdated Cold War mentality and zero-sum game concept, view China's national defense and military construction objectively and rationally, and play a constructive role in safeguarding world and regional peace and stability.
