The plot tells how Dora, the letter writer of Rio de Janeiro Central Station, and Joshua, a child who accidentally lost his mother at the station, trusted and relied on each other during a journey to find their father, and found their own forgiveness and redemption in their lives during the journey.
The film portrays human nature very deeply, Dora has lost her mother since she was a child, her father is an alcoholic, and even her own daughter does not know, since then Dora no longer trusts men, and has been single until she is old, living on the meager income of people at the station.
Although Dora writes letters for others, she has a mean personality, often making decisions for the letter writers, and deciding whether to mail the letter according to her own ideas.
Joshua accompanies his illiterate mother "Anna" to the station to write a letter to Dora, but he has never believed that Dora will help him send a letter to his father. Just when Anna decides to visit Joshua's father in a foreign land, she is killed by a car in order to save her son because Joshua is outside the station in order to retrieve the top.
Joshua, who has lost her mother, is stranded at the station, and Dora looks at the child pitifully and decides to take Joshua home. But Dora was greedy and sold Joshua to traffickers and bought a television set. However, never mindful, she decided to bring Joshua back and take him with her to find her father.
Although Dora seems selfish, but the heart is actually very warm, even if many times on the way to give up Joshua, but Joshua seems to be destined to let her accompany, all the way to the twists and turns, finally accompanied Joshua back to her father's residence, but dad has moved, she had to confess her fate, again accompany Joshua to find her father.
Joshua, though young but very personal, has always rejected Dora, and is eventually touched by Dora's sincerity. The two young and old know each other, a trip to find their father, everyone has their own beliefs, Joshua believes that his father will come back one day. The film is very warm, although the protagonist's personality is not perfect, like Dora is poor enough to steal things from the grocery store, but she is desperate to find a father for Joshua, and even ends up without even having a penny.
Joshua was clever and suggested that she write letters for people and earn living expenses again. It's just that I don't understand why the truck driver will flatter Dora and drive away? Did Joshua say that women in Rio sleep with people before marriage?
But at the end of the play, Dora wears the blue dress that Joshua bought for her and puts on lipstick, and she finally feels confident to be a woman again, which is touching.
