Curatorial Foreword
Preface
"Rubik's Cube Fables" is the second exhibition in the series of "Outstanding Young Art Stars of the Guangdong-Hong Kong-Macao Greater Bay Area" curated by us, which presents the representative works of 17 outstanding "millennials" artists in the Greater Bay Area. In the 2019 "Into a New Era" first series of outstanding young artists in the Greater Bay Area, he not only interpreted the new era through the time logic of "urban memory - from 2G to 5G - digital future", but also the focus of the 2020 "Rubik's Cube Fable" was on the spatial dimension, metaphorizing the compound, interconnectedness and composition of the new era as the physical dimension.
After half a year of collection and screening, we have integrated the works of the participating artists into the six colors of the Rubik's Cube according to their spiritual connotations - "red, orange, yellow, green, blue, and white", and composed six different "Rubik's Cube Fables": 1█ Dopamine Fast Food (Aphrodite's Red), 2█ Materialism Trap (Hermes Orange), 3█ ID Narcissism (Naxos Yellow), 4█ Naturalism and New Equilibrium (Onomia's Green), 5█ Technology (Promethean Blue), 6█ The Invisible Abyss (White of Sisyphus). In summary, the "Rubik's Cube Fable" is a survival assumption of contemporary and future tenses. Nothing can stop the high-dimensional evolution of human beings in the information age, and the rapid progress of technology has permanently changed the structure of human knowledge, time and space perception, emotional scale, consumption habits, value standards and self-perception, and we have become completely different people from the past. We are living in a faster and more violent era, fast enough, smart enough but more nihilistic, divided and controlled. Every day, our various electronic devices are actively or passively "sharing" and "backing up" all their information to the cloud, where there are more perfect ID-like egos that we "perform" on social networks such as circle of friends and Instagram, and the composite composition of virtual and real worlds is making everyone's head link to the cloud that cannot be easily cut the data line has become a new puppet thread. What controls us? What are we trying to control? Have we surpassed our former selves? Have we become "better human beings"? In the midst of materialism, consumer frenzy, the carnival of marquee traffic fragments, there is an invisible abyss of silence around us, where forgotten ideals, sacred beliefs, pure love, affectionate tragedies are shelved... Those things that we once regarded as treasures of the mine. What the "Rubik's Cube Fable" attempts to write and explore is the ontology of the zeitgeist of multi-color, interconnection, high-speed change, loss of control and control.
“Cube” is the second exhibition of GBA Outstanding Young Artists Series Exhibition. Seventeen young artist from Greater Bay Area participate in the event. In the first exhibition in 2019, HeZhi Art present “Entering a new era” as the theme to interpret the city’s memory of development. In 2020, we aimed at presenting the complexity, connectivity and construction in modern days by the metaphor of cube.
After evaluation, we classify and divide the artwork into six group by their theme, “Rouge, Orange, Apricot, Green, Sapphire and White”, redefining six side of the cube: 1. Instant Dopamine (Aphrodite-Rouge), 2,
Consumerism Traps (Hermes-Orange), 3, Digitized Autophilia (Narcissus-Apricot), 4,Naturalism and Avant-Balance (Eunomia-Green), 5, Peeping Machine (Prometheus-Sapphire), 6, Invisible Abyss (Sisyphus-White). From the above, “Cube”is a definition about the hybrid of present tense and future tense, a testimony of existence.
Nothing can stop human beings’ high-dimensional evolution in the information age. The rapid advance of technology has permanently changed human knowledge structure, temporal and spatial perception, emotional scale, consumption habits, value standards and self-awareness. We have become completely different people from the past. We are living in a faster and more violent era, fast enough, smart enough but more nihilistic, divided and controlled. Every day, our various electronic devices are actively or passively "sharing" and "backing up" all ourselves’ information to the cloud. There are more perfect ID selves that we "perform" on social networks such as WeChat, Instagram, etc. The composite composition of the virtual and real world is making the data line that cannot be easily cut off the cloud connected to everyone's head has become a new puppet thread. What is controlling us? What are we trying to control? Have we surpassed our past selves? Have we become "better humans"? In the carnival of materialism, consumer frenzy, and traffic fragments like revolving lanterns, there is an invisible abyss of silence around us. There are forgotten ideals, sacred beliefs, pure love, affectionate tragedies... those that we once regarded as mine treasures. What "The Cube" is trying to profile and explore is the spirit of this multi-color, diversified, interconnected, fast-changing, out-of-control, and controlled spirit of the times.
