Coming to Turkey for the first time, I came to Goreme and was amazed by the landscape! Before coming here, I found a lot of articles about this place from the Internet, and the evaluation of this place is almost the same, that is, they all describe this place as a lunar landscape.
Although I came here in a hurry, only 90 minutes, I experienced rain, snow and sunny days.
Located in the Goreme Valley, the Goreme Open Air Museum is the only open-air museum I have ever seen, and although it is a karst landform, it has a completely different scenery from the landform of The Yunnan-Guizhou region of China.
Not only is there a peculiar natural beauty, but you can also see many ruins and ancient frescoes, almost all of which are hidden in the cave churches, some of which are well preserved and colorful.
These churches were originally built by Christians who fled political persecution during the Persecution of Christianity by the Roman Regime and migrated to Cappadocia, about 2,000 years ago.
In order to hide the eyes and ears, the Christians at that time chiseled the rocks of the mountain into a church.
Along the way up the mountain road, there are cave churches along the way, although these churches are located in the cave, but the layout is basically the same as the traditional church, all of which are cross-shaped and have domes.
The frescoes of cave churches are painted with lime on the walls, and when the lime is damp, they are painted with mixed paint, mostly telling biblical stories, and some churches only have simple cross patterns.
These famous frescoes are generally painted in the 12th-13th centuries. The Church of slippers (arkl Kilise) is named after the figures in the frescoes wearing slippers.
The frescoes in the Church of the Serpent (Yilanl Kilise) depict St. George fighting off the snake. The frescoes inside the Chapel of the Apple (Elmal Kilise) depict the life of Christ.
Strolling through Goreme's unique church complex will make people feel so solemn. Walking slowly forward and looking at its unique scenery will make people have unlimited imagination.
Ancient civilization, beautiful scenery, brilliant past, precipitated charm, Goreme slowly tells its story, telling the millennium.
