In the fragrant rice flowers, listen to their harvest stories

author:China Daily

September 23 this year is the fourth Chinese Farmers' Harvest Festival. This year, the focus of China's "three rural" work has shifted to comprehensively promoting rural revitalization, and on the new journey, what new connotations have been given to "bumper harvest"? What are the expectations? In the fragrant rice blossoms, we listened to the harvest stories they told.

Decades of cultivation, planting "good flavor rice"

This year, for the first time, our province hired the "Jiangsu Promotion Ambassador of the Chinese Farmers' Harvest Festival", and Wang Cailin, a famous rice breeding expert and researcher of the Institute of Food Crops of the Provincial Academy of Agricultural Sciences, was one of the three ambassadors.

On the 18th, when the reporter contacted Wang Cailin, he was on his way to the base. "I've been running around lately. Now that rice is in the filling period, it is necessary to guide growers, and the typhoon has just passed, pay attention to rice planthoppers. Wang Cailin said.

There is a saying circulating in jiangsu's major grain growers and grain enterprise circles: "If you want to eat rice well, look for Wang Cailin." Jiangsu's "good taste rice" is inseparable from Wang Cailin - the first excellent variety he has cultivated for more than ten years, "Nan Japonica 46", has been recognized by industry insiders as the most delicious rice in China; at present, one-third of the rice planting area in Jiangsu is developed and cultivated by Wang Cailin's team.

"When I was studying in Japan 30 years ago, my tutor invited guests to eat bento. For the first time, I found that rice could be so delicious. I thought that if Japanese varieties could be grown in Jiangsu, more people would be able to eat such delicious rice. Wang Cailin said that if you want to eat delicious and high-yielding "top-matching" rice in Jiangsu, you can only cultivate new varieties, which is a protracted battle. The hybridization of two rice varieties will not be able to stabilize the good characteristics we want until at least the eighth generation of descendants. Two generations a year, at least until the fifth year. "Our job is to race against time."

In return for ten years of hard work, Wang Cailin researched the "Nan Japonica 46" suitable for planting in the Taihu Lake Basin, and passed the examination and approval in 2008, which can be promoted in a large area. In 2007 and 2008, "Nan Japonica 46" won the first place in the Jiangsu Japonica Rice High-quality Rice Tasting Meeting for two consecutive years, and was praised as "the most delicious rice in Jiangsu".

Since then, many farmers in central Jiangsu and northern Jiangsu have called for advice, wanting to grow "the most delicious rice". This deeply touched Wang Cailin, "The people like such varieties, and must introduce varieties suitable for planting in more areas." Wang Cailin and his colleagues have successively developed the "Nan Japonica 5055" suitable for planting on both sides of the Yangtze River, the "Nan Japonica 9108" suitable for planting in jianghuai region, and the "nan japonica 505" and "nan japonica 2728" suitable for planting in Huaibei, since then, Jiangsu can grow rice with excellent export feeling from south to north.

"An acre of rice and flowers are fragrant for ten miles, and a family cooks rice and a hundred fragrant." At present, the Nan japonica series varieties have become synonymous with excellent japonica rice in Jiangsu, with an annual planting area of nearly 12 million mu, which has laid a solid foundation for building the Sumi brand and enhancing the competitiveness of Jiangsu's high-quality rice industry.

The breeding base was put on the horse and the villagers were encouraged

Recently, a stone hanging in Zhao Yongcheng's heart finally landed - after more than 9 months of construction, the modern pig breeding base with a construction area of 12,300 square meters was accepted and officially put into operation, and 16,800 pigs can be produced every year. This means that the base will drive the employment of 16 villagers in Wuma Village, Suzui Town, Huai'an District, Huai'an City, with a monthly income of more than 4,000 yuan per person.

Zhao Yongcheng is a member of the Provincial Party Committee's Help and Support Task Force in Huai'an District, and is currently the "First Secretary" of Wuma Village. He told reporters: "For our village, the launch of the modern pig breeding base is the biggest happy event of the harvest festival. "As a typical economically weak village in the 12 provincial-level key assistance and promotion counties in our province, the geographical location is remote, the cultivated land area is small, and the collective resources of the village are scarce, which restricts the development of Wuma Village."

After repeated research and analysis, Zhao Yongcheng and the two village committees studied the various possibilities one by one, and they set their sights on pig breeding. Wuma Village chose Wen's shares, a leading listed company in pig breeding, as a partner in Huaizhou, and the village participated in the construction of a modern pig breeding base. "We have integrated a total of about 4.8 million yuan of funds, corresponding to holding about 30% of the property rights of the breeding base according to the proportion of capital contribution, and leasing the completed breeding base to Wen's shares for use in Huai Institution for a lease period of 18 years." Zhao Yongcheng said that the project will allow Wuma Village to obtain an annual rental income of nearly 200,000 yuan for 18 consecutive years.

"The harvest belongs to both the village and our people. The village collective economy has been enriched, and the masses have also developed dividends. Villager Yin Lin said with a smile.

Ecologically efficient, rice shrimp chrysanthemum comprehensive breeding

At 11 o'clock on the 19th, Zhang Mingxuan, head of Xuanxuan Farm in Dingjing Village, Fuqiao Town, Taicang City, stood in the rice field. He pulled the shrimp net out of the water with force, shook the net, and the large pile of Australian lobsters that were bouncing around fell into the bucket. "These days are the peak sales season, and I can receive more than a dozen calls every day." He said. The ecological and efficient agricultural model has made Zhang Mingxuan a representative of the new farmers who understand technology and love to study, and has also increased the average income of about one-third of the villagers in Dingjing Village by about 12,000 yuan per mu.

Zhang Mingxuan, a native of Shaxi Town, Taicang, tried to start an agricultural business in 2017 after being demobilized from the army. Zhang Mingxuan found that there are many crayfish farmers and the market competition is large. He thought about differentiating himself and introduced Australian lobsters. "Crayfish can only grow to more than 1 or 2, and Aolong can grow to 4 or 2, and the yield is higher per mu." And Aolong is more high-end, sales revenue is better. Zhang Mingxuan said that the release of Aolong seed began in early May, the fishing began in late August, and the catch could be done until the end of November at the latest.

In June of the same year, he learned that the golden silk imperial chrysanthemum did not need to be medicated, was not easy to grow insects, and was suitable for ecological planting, so he introduced seedlings from Jiujiang, Jiangxi Province, and planted them in idle plots by the side of the rice field. At this point, the comprehensive breeding mode of rice shrimp chrysanthemum in Xuanxuan Farm was officially formed.

Zhang Mingxuan said that the rice they planted was "Nan Japonica 46", with a yield of 600-800 catties per mu. Lobster mu yield 450 pounds, the market wholesale price of about 55 yuan, more sold to high-end catering industry. Goldenrod can harvest 10,000 plants per year, with about 80 flowers per plant. The three types of products are sold to many places in the country, and now the annual output value of the farm exceeds 600,000 yuan, and a small team has gradually formed.

Zhang Mingxuan sighed, "Seeing rice and flowers growing on the land, fish and shrimp raised in the pond, and increasing the income of the villagers, I feel that my value lies." ”

Poverty alleviation hat, rice flowers fragrant said good year

"In another month, the rice will be harvested." Looking at this growth, this year's harvest is definitely not bad! Standing on the ridge, Yang Yong, a large planter in Tiaohe Village, Chengji Town, Lianshui County, couldn't help but look at the pieces of rice with heavy rice ears hanging from it.

"This year is another harvest year! At the beginning of the year, the wheat planted by the family was harvested. Now looking at the growth of rice, I estimate that the average yield per mu can reach 1400 catties, and if it is good, it may be 1500 catties. Touching a handful of rice ears, Yang Yong calculated another harvest account: planting one wheat and one rice and two crops a year, harvesting nearly 400,000 catties, with an annual income of 70,000 or 80,000 yuan, which not only solved the problem of eating, but also suddenly let his family cross the threshold of low-income peasant families.

As the pillar of the family, a few years ago, Yang Yong unfortunately suffered from hepatitis, almost lost his labor force, and the family's economic situation also plummeted.

During the "13th Five-Year Plan" period, after a number of government assistance and assistance, Yang Yong's health gradually improved after hospitalization. He secretly decided: "I can't just go poor for the rest of my life!" ”

Yang Yong first used the woodland in front of his house to try to raise native chickens, pigeons and pigs, and achieved good returns. Later, poultry farming also grew larger, and at its peak he raised more than 3,000 chickens and ducks. In 2019, the per capita income of Yang Yong's family exceeded the provincial standard, and he took off the hat of a poor household in one fell swoop.

"The investment in environmental protection facilities was too large, so I responded to the call for environmental protection and closed the farm." Since last year, he has leased 160 acres of contiguous land circulating in the village and planted wheat and rice. Without capital, the poverty alleviation cadres handled a small interest-free loan for him; there were not enough manpower, and the help team members helped him purchase agricultural machinery, contact drone flying and mechanized harvesting. "With the capital and agricultural machinery and equipment, the confidence is more sufficient."

The thousand-year-old Yan Village has become a net red village

In the past two years, through the vigorous development of rural tourism, the thousand-year-old ancient weir - Gaojiayan in Huaiyin District, Huai'an City, has been rejuvenated and has become a well-known internet red village. These changes are inseparable from Jiang Yong, a cadre of the Provincial Water Conservancy Department stationed in the village, deputy secretary of the party committee of Gaojiayan Town in Huaiyin District, and first secretary of Gaoyan Village.

In March 2020, Jiang Yong was selected by the provincial party committee to serve as the first secretary of Gaoyan Village.

The right medicine can be prescribed. Jiang Yong proposed taking the Jianqiang party branch as the "driving force" for poverty alleviation, selecting and bringing in 1 returned college student and 1 local veteran to enrich the village "two committees" leading body; at the same time formulating and improving the system of party members and cadres of the "two committees" in Gaoyan Village sitting on duty and pairing up to help and support them, strictly organizing the living system, giving party lessons to rural party members, and laying a solid ideological foundation for rural development.

Jiang Yong found that Gaoyan Village is located in the ecological red line and flood storage area, and the industrial development of industry and agriculture is limited, but it has unique cultural and tourism resources such as Hongze Lake Guyan, an important node of the Grand Canal Cultural Belt, which is suitable for the development of rural tourism. He encouraged the resumption of cultural and tourism projects in the village such as power paragliding, go-karts, equestrianism, rice and shrimp breeding gardens that were suspended due to the epidemic, and organized a group of Douyin short video creation enthusiasts to shoot and produce promotional videos to show the characteristic local and local customs.

Soon, the unique natural scenery, cultural customs and agricultural festivals attracted many tourists. Today, Gaoyan Village has formed an ancient street night market with more than 350 daily stalls and tens of thousands of people, driving more than 200 operating households such as catering, snacks, accommodation, and small commodities to increase their income and become rich.

Guarding a fungus, "flowers" bloom in the greenhouse

Morels, not only are the treasures on the banquet, but also the prestigious food supplements, the market value is extremely high, mostly grown in the deep mountains and old forests of Sichuan, Yunnan and other places, artificial planting is difficult. Liu Huanhuan, a post-90s farmer in Xuzhou, led the villagers to plant morels for the first time in The Tongshan District of Xuzhou. Nowadays, the planting area of morels in the area has reached about 300 mu, and the annual output value exceeds 10 million yuan.

On September 16, the reporter came to the morel mushroom planting base of Shangtangxi morels in Xinzhuang Village, Tangzhang Town, Tongshan District, Xuzhou City. Liu Huan said with a smile, "Recently it is the Mid-Autumn Festival National Day holiday, many people will buy morel gift boxes as a gift gift, and the goods in our warehouse are in short supply. ”

Liu Huanhuan graduated from Jiangsu University in 2015 with a major in logistics management and went to Shanghai to work on the Internet and finance. He gave up his high-paying job in Shanghai in 2017 and returned to his hometown to pursue a career in agriculture. Under the pressure of his family's confusion and complaints, he tried to plant morels with an acre of land in his family, harvesting 380 catties in the first year and selling for nearly 40,000 yuan. Liu Huanhuan took the initiative to seek advice from growers and experts in other regions, and summarized the localized planting management process while practicing. He also established Xuzhou Langxi Agricultural Technology Co., Ltd., and began to lead the villagers to plant, distribute the strains for free to everyone, and do technical training.

Liu Huanhuan said that now he has led the villagers to plant a total of 300 mu of morels, with an average output of more than 600 catties per mu and an average profit of more than 20,000 yuan per mu. After the morel mushroom harvest, two stubbles of vegetables can be planted to further increase the income of the people. (Wang Jianpeng, Yan Ying, Wu Qiong)
