On July 26, the Fifth Intermediate People's Court of Chongqing Municipality issued an announcement announcing the details of the trial of Zhang Bo and Ye Chengchen's intentional homicide case and Chen Meilin's attached civil litigation compensation case. The public prosecution accused Zhang Bo and Ye Chengchen of conspiring to kill Zhang Bo and Chen Meilin's two children, Yunyun and Lei Lei, and as plaintiffs in the attached civil lawsuit, Chen Meilin demanded that the two defendants compensate for economic losses such as funeral expenses, lost work expenses, and transportation expenses, and bear joint and several liability for compensation.
In the final presentation stage, Chen Meilin said in court that she would withdraw the criminal attached civil action and demand that the two defendants be severely punished. The court adjourned the court and the sentencing will be pronounced at a later date.

10 days after the incident, Zhang Bo and his girlfriend Ye Chengchen were arrested. On July 16, 2021, Chen Meilin published the relevant details of the case on social media.
According to the indictment issued by the Fifth Branch of the Chongqing Municipal People's Procuratorate on March 18, 2021, Zhang Bo and Ye Chengchen, another defendant in the case, met through the Internet and then began to fall in love. After Zhang Bo's divorce, Ye Chengchen repeatedly told Zhang Bo that he and his parents could not accept the fact that Zhang Bo had children, and if Zhang Bo had a child, Ye Chengchen could not be with Zhang Bo. Around February 2020, the two conspired to kill Zhang Bo's child when they met in the Longevity District. Subsequently, the two conspired to kill the two children through interviews, WeChat chats, etc. many times, and agreed to kill the two children by accidentally falling high, and in June of the same year, Ye Chengchen repeatedly urged Zhang Bo to commit crimes through WeChat.
On October 25, 2020, Zhang Bo asked his mother Liu Mouhua to contact his ex-wife Chen Meilin and take his eldest daughter Yunyun to his home and wait for the opportunity to commit a crime. But because Chen Meilin had been present that day, Zhang Bo failed to commit the crime. During the period, Zhang Bo and Ye Chengchen contacted Ye Chengchen many times on WeChat, Ye Chengchen asked Zhang Bo to leave Yunyun overnight, and Zhang Bo said that he was looking for an opportunity to pick up Yunyun next week.
A week later, on November 1, Zhang Bo again took the initiative to contact Chen Meilin to pick up Yunyun, and after Chen Meilin sent Yunyun to Zhang Bo's home, he left because he wanted to have dinner with friends, and Yunyun stayed at Zhang Bo's home. That night, because Liu Mouhua was at home, Zhang Bo also failed to commit a crime and drove to the Longevity District to meet Ye Chengchen. At about 10:00 a.m. on November 2, Zhang Bo returned home, and at about 3:30 p.m., Zhang Bo took advantage of Liu Mouhua's absence from home to hold the two children who were playing in the second bedroom with their legs and threw them downstairs from the bay window of the second bedroom together. Yun Yun died on the spot, and Lei Lei died after being sent to the hospital for rescue.
