Qingdao Finance and Economic Daily / Qingdao Finance network news (reporter Li Yiwei) On September 17, the reporter learned from the Institute of Oceanology of the Chinese Academy of Sciences that the Sanxiang Zheng Shouyi Youth Science and Technology Development Foundation, named by Zheng Shouyi, an academician of the Chinese Academy of Sciences and a famous marine biologist, was established in Qingdao, and the Zheng Shouyi Youth Science and Technology Development Foundation raised a total of 2 million yuan to support the science popularization education of young people in Sanxiang Township, Zhongshan, Guangdong Province.
It is reported that Academician Zheng Shouyi has been working and living in Qingdao for 62 years and has contributed his life to the country's marine scientific research cause. She pioneered and developed the research of modern foraminifera in China, so that the taxonomy, population and ecology research of foraminifera in china has come to the forelight and ranked among the world's advanced ranks. So far, Academician Zheng has described more than 1,500 species of foraminifera in detail, including 1 new family, 1 new subfamily, 24 new genera, and 290 new species; he has personally drawn nearly 10,000 foraminifera morphological maps and completed the quantitative counting of thousands of measurement stations (times). On this basis, the distribution rules of foraminifera fauna, ecological characteristics and multiple foraminifera parameters in China are summarized more comprehensively and systematically. For his outstanding contributions to marine foraminifera, Academician Zheng Shouyi won the Kushman Prize, the highest international award for foraminifera research, in 2003.
Academician Zheng Shouyi attaches great importance to the marine science education of young people, although she is 87 years old, she still insists on carrying out science education for primary and secondary school students in the front line. In order to make the needle-like foraminifera become a scientific research and teaching tool that can be seen and felt, she has created a research and development work of rare foraminifera amplification models and large-scale sculptures at home and abroad, personally carved more than 230 lifelike foraminifera species amplified prototypes, and built the world's first public welfare foraminifera sculpture park with more than 110 large stone sculptures with more than 110 large stone sculptures with her hometown Zhongshan Sanxiang Township in Guangdong Province, and the world's largest coastal foraminifera sculpture park with 201 foraminifera sculptures with Huangdao District of Qingdao City. With this as a carrier, it not only shows the diverse beauty of the microscopic world of foraminifera, but also popularizes the knowledge of marine science to the public.
This time, Academician Zheng Shouyi set up a science and technology development fund for young people in his hometown, which will be used to support the science popularization education of young people in public primary and secondary schools in Sanxiang Township, so that young people can learn more about marine science knowledge. At the same time, Zheng Shouyi's Qingdao story will also enter Sanxiang Town, so that more people can understand the development process of Qingdao Marine Science and Technology.
