When Cixi entered the palace, she was only given the title of Lan Gui.
Due to his quick wit, An Dehai had become Xianfeng's imperial eunuch, that is, a personal eunuch.
The ambitious Cixi secretly bribed Andehai in order to gain Xianfeng's favor.
An Dehai had a vision, and he saw that Cixi was not an ordinary person, so he not only did not accept bribes from her, but also waited for the opportunity to promote her chance to be pampered.
Since then, Cixi has skillfully resorted to the favor of Xianfeng. Of course, she repaid An Dehai with a peach, and praised him in front of Xian Feng.
In 1861, Xianfeng died of illness in Rehe, and the 6-year-old Zaichun succeeded to the throne as the Tongzhi Emperor. Cixi's mother, along with Ci'an, was honored as empress dowager.
Since Xianfeng was still alive, Cixi often helped Xianfeng to approve the recital and execute the government affairs. Therefore, she did not want The Eight Ministers, such as Su Shun, designated by Xianfeng, to control the government.
In order to seize power, Cixi secretly ordered An Dehai to try to rush to Beijing to find Prince Gong and prepare to launch a coup d'état with Prince Gong.
At the risk of his life, Andehai safely delivered the letter written by Cixi to Prince Gong's hands. Subsequently, he threaded the needle through it. In the end, with the help of Prince Gong, Cixi launched the "Xin You Coup" and successfully seized power.

Later, in order to help Cixi remove Prince Gong's power, An Dehai secretly found someone to impeach Prince Gong on trumped-up charges, and finally Cixi achieved her goal and further consolidated the power in her hands.

Cixi, as for his part, did not forget to dig wells, and not only promoted An Dehai to the chief steward of all the eunuchs, but also regarded him as a confidant and was constantly gracious to him.
An Dehai can not only solve Cixi's urgent needs, he is also good at observing the face and looking at the color, and throwing in Cixi's favor.
Cixi listened to drama, and in order to relieve her loneliness, An Dehai specially built a beautifully decorated stage in Xiyuan, and also recruited famous actors everywhere to rehearse opera for Cixi to enjoy the drama.
Because Andehai had a very thorough understanding of Cixi's personality and hobbies, Cixi became more and more fond of Andehai, so that when she ate and slept, She had to be personally served by Andehai.
Because of his favor, An Dehai was somewhat pampered and arrogant, and he did not pay attention to anyone, even Ci'an and Tongzhi, he did not care. Sometimes, he also fabricated bad things about Ci'an and Tongzhi in front of Cixi.
When An Dehai left the palace to swim to the territory of Dezhou in Shandong, the local official Zhao Xin saw that An Dehai did not have a certificate to leave the palace, did not dare to be sloppy, and immediately reported the matter to Ding Baozhen, the inspector of Shandong.
Ding Baozhen was a man of integrity and had long been dissatisfied with Andehai's behavior. He immediately reported the matter to Ci'an and Tongzhi. With the permission of Ci'an and Tongzhi, he quickly captured Andehai, who was flaunting his might. After some interrogation, He decisively put Anderhai on the spot.
However, in order not to embarrass Cixi, Ding Baozhen stripped Off Andehai's pants after putting An Dehai in the right place, and was violently killed in the city for 3 days.
It was this move that made Cixi not retaliate against Ding Baozhen, because with this move, the rumor that "Cixi was privately fortunate and Andehai" naturally broke itself, and Cixi's reputation was restored.
