However, Yanagishita Ishime is actually a person of high moral character, and "sitting still" is not originally a pejorative meaning, but praises Yanagishita's noble character.

Yanagishita Hui's real name was Zhan Yue, the word bird, "Liuxia" is his title of Tian Yi, "Hui" is his own title, so posterity mostly called him "Yanagi xia hui", he was a thinker, politician, and educator in the Spring and Autumn Period.
In his career, Yanagishita Kei was quite unhappy. Liu Xia Hui did not serve as an official in his lifetime, only a few minor official positions sporadically, and the Analects record that Liu Xia Hui served as a scholar in the State of Lu. Yanagishita Huisheng was honest in nature, and often spoke freely in the official arena, unceremoniously pointing out the ills of some scholars. This naturally caused the dissatisfaction of other officials, so it was often possible for people to slander him and confuse the monarch in order to step on Yanagishita Hui, who was deposed and dismissed three times in succession. Yanagishita Hui's townspeople saw that Yanagishita Huiyi was still degraded one after another when he was old, but when they saw that he did not care, they asked him why, and Yanagishita Hui immediately sang a song, saying that in the workplace, this is normal, but he has "not been happy with things, not sad with himself".
Although Yanagi xia hui could not eat in the country of Lu, but because of his famous moral learning, he was recruited by the princes of various countries to be hired by high-ranking officials, which was very popular in other countries, if he accepted the invitation of these countries, perhaps Yanagi Xia Hui could also become a benevolent person who influenced a country, but Yanagishita Hui refused one by one. When someone asked why, Yanagishita replied with a relaxed look: "The reason why I have been degraded in Luguo one after another is because of my outspoken character, that is, as long as I am still outspoken for a day, I am the same in any country, and I will eventually be deposed." And if I don't talk like this and meet some of those powerful people a little, then I can also get high-ranking officials in the country of Lu, so why should I leave my hometown and go to a place I am not familiar with? ”

The allusion to "sitting in the heart and not being chaotic" first appeared in the "Xunzi Sketch", the original text was "Yanagisha Hui and the backdoor are in the same clothes, and there is no doubt, not a day's news." From this point of view, the story of Liu XiaHui sitting in peace has long been circulated, and this allusion is also mentioned in the "Mao Shi Ancient Training and Xiang Bo" in the early years of the Western Han Dynasty hundreds of years later. It is about a stormy day when a man who lives alone refuses to let a woman who also lives alone into the house to avoid the rain, in order to learn the virtues of Yanagishita. At the end of the Yuan Dynasty and the beginning of the Ming Dynasty, Tao Zongyi's "Nancun Dropout Cultivation Record , Volume IV , No Chaos and Attachment" had a specific process, which recorded that Liu Xia Hui stayed at Guomen at night, and soon another woman who also had no place to stay also came to stay, And Yanagishita Hui saw that she was very cold, afraid that she would freeze to death, so he let the woman sit in his arms, wrapped her in his own clothes and warmed her, until the morning. During this period, Yanagishita Hui did not have any waves, and the right should be to save people's lives and win the seven-level floating massacre.
Because of this move, Yanagi was regarded by the people of the time as a model of observing traditional Chinese morality, and sitting still was also regarded as a positive word to describe men's upright style in gender relations.

The beautiful talk has been circulating for a thousand years, and some people have questioned, sitting in the heart is a private matter between Yanagishita Hui and this woman, how did it be widely spread by everyone? There are only two ways to let everyone know - one is that the woman herself said it, but in the feudal period, she was held by a strange man and sat all night, and nothing happened. And even if nothing really happened, this was a great insult to the reputation of the woman in the feudal era, if the woman was still single, she was afraid that no one would dare to come to kiss her; even if the woman got married, it would be stealing food behind her husband's back, and it would be even more disgraceful to pass it on. In either case, it is unfavorable to this woman, the two do not know each other, even if Yanagishita Hui held her for a night, it is not worth her sacrificing her life's events and reputation in order to promote Yanagishita's good reputation, this kind of harmful thing this woman will never do.
The other one may be what Yanagishita Hui said herself, if Yanagishita hui really said it herself, it will inevitably have an element of concealment and exaggeration, after all, the princess sells melons - selling herself and boasting, and nothing happens in one night, and nothing likely happens, either Yanagisha Hui can't do it, or he hides it. Saying that what he said is not so meaningful, since the ancients all advocate modesty, he Liu Xia Hui no matter how straight he can not be so faceless, so this allusion from The mouth of Yanagishita Hui is also debatable.
Let's go back and look at the timeline, we can find that in fact, the development of this allusion is very interesting, according to Ebbinghaus's forgetting curve, people should be the more years old, the more vague the details, but Yanagishita's allusion is not. This allusion is that the longer it has passed, the richer its story line and the clearer the details, so that in the late Yuan and early Ming dynasties a thousand years later, it has developed from "sharing clothes with the backdoor" to "sitting in the arms". Looking at the rich time point of this story, it is at the end of the Yuan Dynasty and the beginning of the Ming Dynasty, a period when Song Ming Theory was prevalent, during this period, the theologians advocated "preserving heavenly reason and destroying people's desires", advocating that men and women were not intimate, and advocating in the whole society that "starvation is small, and loss of discipline is big" in the whole society. In this way, it is easy to understand that this story is likely to be artificially perfected by theoreticians in order to support their theories from the history books.
And as for why Yanagishita Kei? There are two main reasons, on the one hand, Liu XiaHui was a figure in the Spring and Autumn Period, and there was no trace of him for a long time; on the other hand, Liu Xia Hui, who was also a Lu guo person like Confucius, was posthumously revered as a "peace saint" by Mencius, and the book "Mencius" once called Liu Xia Hui and Boyi, Yi Yin, and Confucius the four great sages, believing that he was not ashamed because the monarch was not holy, and did not resign his official position because of his humble official position; when he was in a high position, he did not forget to promote a virtuous person, and there was no resentment when he was forgotten in the people; when he was poor, he did not worry, and he got along with the people in the countryside. He also feels very pleasant; he thinks that he can stay with anyone and be unaffected. In Mencius's eyes, the "Master of the Hundred Worlds" Yanagishita Hui deserved it.

Although it is logically impossible to say that Yanagishita does not sit in confusion, this kind of character is still worth learning from future generations, and the story made up by the theorists has a certain social enlightenment significance. And Yanagishita herself is indeed a talent.
