During the Three Kingdoms period, Luzhou (in the area of present-day Hefei, Anhui) was located at the junction of the Kingdom of Wu and the Kingdom of Ghosts, and was a place where soldiers and families had to fight.
After Cao Cao unified the north in the thirteenth year of the Han Dynasty (208 AD), he led an army of 830,000 troops from the capital Xuchang to the south to conquer Sun Wu. Due to excessive fatigue, when he was in Luzhou, Cao Cao's headache recurred and he was bedridden.
The chef of the marching dining room followed the doctor's advice and selected local chicken with traditional Chinese medicine and liquor to cook into a therapeutic "medicinal spleen chicken". After Cao Cao tasted it, he felt that the taste was good, and he ate a lot in a row, and unconsciously felt that the headache was much lighter. In order to cure the disease as soon as possible, Cao Cao ordered the cooks to make this chicken for him to eat at every meal. He ate for several days, gradually recovered, and after a few days he got out of bed.
From then on, no matter where the troops went, as long as there were conditions, Cao Cao would eat this kind of "medicinal chicken.". Later, this dish that has both nutritional value, disease prevention and treatment gradually spread, and people named this medicinal dish "Cao Cao Chicken".
