The 9-volume Jiajing copy of the Yongle Canon is on display for the first time in recent years
After nearly three years, the National Library of China once again launched the theme exhibition of "Yongle Canon". The exhibition is divided into 5 units, and selects more than 70 volumes (pieces) of more than 60 kinds of fine works including rare books, public opinion maps, manuscripts, etc., comprehensively showing the past and present lives of the Yongle Canon, including the process of compilation, layout appearance, gathering and dispersing rheology, etc.
Among them, the 9 copies of Jiajing of the Yongle Canon are exhibited for the first time in recent years, which is the highlight of this exhibition. There are many volumes of the Yongle Canon, which are representative of overseas returns, such as the "Nong" character book purchased by Wang Chongmin from the United Kingdom for the Beiping Library in 1938.
At the same time, there are more than 40 volumes (pieces) of ancient books such as Ming Codex, Ming Engraved Ben, Ming Tuo Ben, etc., as well as copies of relevant archives of the Yongle Canon.
A variety of interactive experiences To learn more about Chinese classics
In order to let the audience get a better viewing experience, the exhibition uses a large number of new media display methods such as immersive ring screens and interactive games. Visitors can access the Yongle Canon return charts and databases on the touch screen, and view high-definition images of the Yongle Canon from a number of collections, including the National Library.
What is the Yongle Canon?
"Yongle Canon" is the largest kind of book in ancient China, the exhibition will select the representative books of the past to introduce, and specially popularize the traditional book type of "class book".
Zhang Zhiqing, deputy director of the National Library, said in an interview with CCTV reporters that the Yongle Canon should be said to be the world's greatest encyclopedia. Its entire circulation process is closely integrated with the fate of the country and the destiny of the nation. Although the number is now only 3% to 4% of the original book, it still has a great role in modern society and is an attempt by China to organize knowledge in the classics.
The establishment of the "Yongle Dadian" Research Center is of great significance, it is the National Library of China to summarize the collection process of 112 years, and further gather talents, we jointly set up topics, jointly tackle key problems. It is understood that the establishment of the "Yongle Dadian" Research Center of the National Library of China aims to contact and organize experts and scholars at home and abroad to conduct more comprehensive and in-depth research on the Yongle Dadian and display and promote its cultural essence with contemporary value and world significance.
Zhang Zhiqing said, "I hope that everyone can remember two things when they visit the exhibition. The first is to enter the "Yongle Canon" and think about what kind of book it is? Why Great? The second is to be able to jump out of the book, that is, to see the whole history, what is the creation process of the "Yongle Canon"? What is the relationship with the past, present and future of the Chinese nation? And then it leads to thinking, which is what we expect. ”
The original copy of the Yongle Canon is unknown, the original 11,095 volumes, 22,937 volumes (including the catalogue, 60 volumes of ordinary examples) of Jiajing, as of now only more than 400 volumes, more than 800 volumes and some zero leaves have survived, and the National Library of China has a total of 224 volumes of the Yongle Canon.
