The legendary "divine beast" - the white roe deer

The college entrance examination is over, and a batch of "divine beasts" have been released; and as the summer vacation is getting closer and closer, a large number of "divine beasts" are eager to try and wait to be released. I don't know if parents are ready?

Now when it comes to the "divine beasts" in the family, parents are both loving and headaches. But in ancient times, the "divine beast" was a proper symbol of auspiciousness. Today we will learn about the white roe deer!

In the National Palace Museum in Taipei, Taiwan Province, China, there is such a painting: under a pine tree, a white roe deer is leisurely wandering, looking very beautiful. This painting is the "RuiLu Tu" created by the Qing Dynasty painter Lang Shining, and the white animal in the picture is an extremely rare white roe deer.

Roe deer, known as siberian roe deer, is a relatively common herbivores in eastern Asia, usually yellow-brown fur, but the roe deer in the "Ray Deer Map" has become snow-white because of the rare phenomenon of albinism. "Rui Lu Tu" is the birthday gift of the Qianlong Emperor to the empress, and there is another story about this painting.

The legendary "divine beast" - the white roe deer

In the sixteenth year of Qianlong, that is, in the autumn of 1715, the Qianlong Emperor went hunting outside Saiwai, and the Mongols offered a white roe deer. According to the literature, the roe deer's fur was as white as snow and its eyes were as red as dansha. Later people deduced from its various characteristics that this should be a typical feature of albinism, a lack of melanin due to the lack of tyrosinase, so the roe deer was completely snow-white.

But the ancients at that time did not understand these things, and regarded the white roe deer as a symbol of auspiciousness. In the Book of "Hugging Fluttershy" by Ge Hong of the Jin Dynasty, it is written: "The deer lives for a thousand years, and when it reaches five hundred years old, it is white", which probably means that the life span of the deer can reach a thousand years old, and the hair will turn white after reaching five hundred years old. Therefore, the white roe deer, a deer, can be said to be a symbol of longevity and spirituality in the eyes of the ancients.

The legendary "divine beast" - the white roe deer

The year when the Qianlong Emperor obtained the White Roe deer, it was exactly the sixtieth birthday of the Empress Dowager, and the country was also in good shape, so Qianlong named the white roe deer "Rui Que" and gave a poem, and asked the court painter Lang Shining to draw the "Rui Que Tu" and dedicate it to the empress dowager as a birthday gift. This "Rui Lu Tu" has been handed down to the present day and is collected by the National Palace Museum in Taipei.

In fact, because albino animals do not have a natural protective color, they are very easy to be found by predators when living in the wild, so they usually have difficulty surviving and are rare in number. Historical records of white roe deer have been very rare, and in recent years, a precious wild white roe deer has been found in the Siberian Tiger and Leopard National Park. According to experts from the State Forestry and Grassland Administration, this is the first time in the past 40 years that white roe deer have been found in the wild in China.
