At noon on July 31, 2021, I received a call from the patient who was told to receive a 2-year-old baby. Too late to think about anything, we immediately went downstairs to pick up the patient. I thought that the family came with the child, and when they met, they were told that the child's parents were in isolation, and only the child came here. The little one was held, tears in his eyes, and at that moment, there was some pain.
Under the epidemic, the saddest thing is that the child is infected, and when the parents are most needed to accompany them, there is only a group of strange uncles and aunts around. As a mother, there were some tears in my eyes for a while. Quickly calmed down and told himself: Take care of him and be his temporary mother.
Carrying him back to the ward, perhaps because he came to an unfamiliar environment, he cried vigorously to find his mother, or perhaps because he was afraid, he did not dare to cry. All the colleagues in the ward were heartbroken and took turns to coax him. Fortunately, with our experience in pediatrics and parenting, we quickly let the child accept it and took the initiative to give us the only toy in hand. At that moment, the tired heart was melted.
In the face of such a young child, as a medical staff, the pressure is even greater, and it is not a small challenge to take care of him 24 hours a day to ensure safety, but also to soothe his emotions and avoid leaving a shadow on the young mind. Feeding, changing diapers, coaxing, bathing, everything that was originally done by Mom and Dad is now done by us. Soon, everyone was lined up, a 24-hour escort plan was determined, and a group of rotating mothers were on duty.
After changing shifts, I still can't help but pull out my mobile phone and look at the messages sent in the group. Seeing colleagues take out their own various collections, there are lollipops, cookies to coax children, a warm current slowly flows through the heart.

When I came to Xiaotangshan, I entered the pediatric isolation ward, facing a small face and anxious parents, I patiently communicated with them, in addition to providing treatment and communicating with the disease, I also needed to psychologically dispel the fears of children and the worries of parents. So lollipops became my secret weapon, mingling with the children while patiently comforting the parents. Perhaps with the gentleness and patience of the pediatricians themselves, the children would always smile at me, and even their most fearful throat swabs could be quickly coaxed into fun after a little cry.
I remember the first night shift in Xiaotangshan, I accepted a 3-year-old child. In the night, the small body is wrapped in a large protective suit and protective screen, and every step she takes is worried that she will trip. The grandfather who accompanied me was old and still carrying a duffel bag, so I quickly went forward and crouched down to greet the little girl. Originally worried that the children would be afraid of me, I did not expect that she was very well-behaved and cute, in a few simple chats, she told me that her name was Xiao Ke, and she was 3 years old this year. I carried her to the pediatric ward on the 6th floor, and she obediently lay on my shoulder, her soft little hands hugging me tightly. When I went to see her after I had finished my medical advice and written down the course of my illness, she had quietly fallen asleep. In the isolation ward, although separated by heavy protective clothing, everyone's heart is close together, here, more is companionship and encouragement, love and hope.
On August 5th, the rotating "mothers" in the ward held a special birthday party for the 3 children, and the "mothers" carefully arranged the birthday scene in the ward in advance, and prepared cakes and birthday gifts for the children, and the children were very happy. Let the children celebrate their birthday happily, even in the ward, feel happy and warm!
In the pediatric ward of "Xiaotangshan", there are more rotating mothers, who use professional diagnosis and treatment techniques to cure every child, warm every child with their own love, and believe that they will be able to work together to defeat the epidemic as soon as possible.
