Prosecutors said that from February to March 2011, Qiao Yu instructed the two men to sprinkle paint on Zhou Chenghai's Mercedes-Benz S350 car on the side of Xiaoyun Road outside the East Fourth Ring Road in Chaoyang District and in the parking lot of the Qingbird Fitness Center of the Zhaolong Hotel in the East Third Ring Road in Chaoyang District, respectively, and based on this, they fabricated false facts to Zhou Chenghai that he had offended the "underworld boss". Qiao Yu lied to Zhou Chenghai that the "underworld boss" wanted to cooperate with Zhou Chenghai to develop real estate projects. In addition, he also fabricated false facts and defrauded Zhou Chenghai of 500,000 yuan, a Patek Philippe watch and a calligraphy painting.

But according to the trial, in the end, the court only found that Qiao Yu defrauded Zhou Chenghai of 2.36 million yuan. The stolen money has been recovered.

The court held that Qiao Yu's conduct constituted the crime of fraud. Taking into account the circumstances such as the recovery of the money defrauded by Qiao Yu, the court sentenced Qiao Yu to 11 years' imprisonment, deprivation of political rights for two years, and a fine of 11,000 yuan for fraud in the first instance.
