Mauritius Island, Nour Restaurant / Whitek Studio

Mauritius Island, Nour Restaurant / Whitek Studio

On the island of Mauritius, Whitek Studios designed a sculptural restaurant that opens up like a blooming flower. The client is a married couple who, after working in paris kitchens for many years, want to move back to their country and start their own fine dining business. The main idea of this project is to create an environment where everyone can see the preparation of food and enjoy this fascinating process.

Through conversations with the client and Jeg Dudley of AKT, an engineer in London, Whiteaker Studios formed an idea for the appearance of a triangular structure. The shape of the restaurant is a sculptural shell made of polycarbonate tiles that can be opened and closed to promote ventilation. The doors are a natural extension of a triangle that can be folded to create an extra seating area that can accommodate 32 to 40 guests. The project will be completed sometime in 2022 with the help of Engineers from Simple Works and local architect Faiz Toorabally.
