Due to poor weather, the Japanese freighter that ran into a reef spill in Mauritius was delayed in withdrawing

Kyodo News Agency reported on October 24 that in connection with the accident caused by the reefing of the Japanese freighter "WAKASHIO" off the coast of Mauritius in the Indian Ocean island country last summer, an official from the country's Ministry of Environment, Solid Waste Treatment and Climate Change revealed in an interview with Kyodo News Agency a few days ago that due to the continuous poor weather, the removal of the reefer was significantly delayed than planned.

The WAKASHIO hit a reef in late July last year during a voyage arranged by merchant marine Mitsui and began to leak fuel from early August of the same year. Not only did it pollute mangroves by the arrival of fuel oil on the coast, but it also led to a ban on fishing in the surrounding waters and a crackdown on fishing.
