Over the past 17 years, with the joint efforts of the team, many Peking Opera traditions and new plays have been rehearsed, and the classic plays of Peking Opera and Tongpai have been dedicated to audiences and Peking Opera lovers on the stages of New York and North America.
On the 23rd, the Tong Xiaoling Opera Workshop will present three classic plays to the audience. Among them, "Mu Guiying Hangs The Marshal" and "Sitting in the Palace" are Meipai classics, which are undertaken by senior Peking Opera lovers Xie Xiaoxian, Wang Shuangqiu and outstanding young students Gao Jin. "Spinning Cotton" is performed by Tong Xiaoling and Zhou Longzhang, president of the Meihua Arts Association and also a famous actor in Peking Opera. The two will adapt the play in the form of Shanghai opera, Huangmei opera, Peking opera, Kunqu opera, pingtan and other performances, hoping to bring surprises to the audience.
Tong Xiaoling introduced that "Spinning Cotton" is Tong Zhiling's popular repertoire in the 1940s, and it is a play that shows personal talent. Tong Zhiling swept the audience on the stage with her versatility, ultimate imitation ability and the aura of her general style. The rehearsal of this play is to commemorate the contribution made by her mother in the history of Peking Opera, and also hopes to bring an audio-visual feast to fans and friends. In addition, Wang Mengting, a young Peking opera actress in Beijing, put "Spinning Cotton" on the stage for the first time at the beginning of this year, and in order to support this performance, she specially sent the spinning wheels in the play from China to New York and provided performance costumes for the actors.
