Liu Fang: Carrying the heart of the farmer to escort the healthy development of animal husbandry

Liu Fang is the director of the Animal Disease Prevention and Control Center and extension researcher of Gu'an County, and has been engaged in animal disease prevention and control and technology promotion for more than 20 years. She once led the laboratory staff of the Epidemic Control Center to pass the first batch of county-level veterinary laboratories in Hebei Province to compare African swine fever experiments at one time. Over the years, while doing a good job in the promotion and service of scientific breeding technology, she has actively participated in professional and technical research, and escorted the healthy development of local animal husbandry with the intention of farming.

At present, Liu Fang and laboratory personnel are busy carrying out animal disease antibody monitoring experiments. In order to timely and comprehensively understand the prevention and control of various animal diseases in the county, Liu Fang led the team to conduct regular sampling and monitoring of the epidemic prevention effect of major animal diseases in the county, and at the same time summarized and sorted out according to the monitoring results, and formulated reasonable, safe and effective epidemic prevention procedures, which were provided to veterinary staff and farmers to minimize the breeding risks of farmers.

With her efforts, in 2018, the county epidemic control center completed the upgrading of the laboratory, built a standardized veterinary laboratory with complete functions and perfect facilities in the work area, had the ability to detect animal diseases such as foot-and-mouth disease, avian influenza, swine fever, and Newcastle disease, and established and improved the quality management system and biosecurity management system that were compatible with the testing work, and issued and implemented the "Quality Manual", "Biosafety Management Manual", "Operation Instructions" and other documents. In 2019, the Gu'an County Epidemic Control Center Laboratory became one of the first laboratories in the province to have the ability to detect African swine fever.

Technical services are an important means to promote the healthy and rapid development of animal husbandry. Over the years, Liu Fang has been on the front line of scientific breeding and scientific prevention and control technology popularization, starting from the three levels of scientific and technological publicity, consulting services, and talent training, and striving to improve the household rate of animal husbandry science and technology. More than 30,000 farmers have been trained by Liu Fang, and every farm (household) in Gu'an has technical personnel who have mastered scientific breeding.

"She has done a lot of work in disease prevention and control, often going down to the grass-roots level to investigate, understand what difficulties there are at the grass-roots level, and help us solve problems in a timely manner." Liu Botao, general manager of Gu'an Xinmu Dairy Co., Ltd., said.

While doing a good job in technology promotion and service, Liu Fang also actively participates in professional and technical research, and has published more than 20 professional papers in national and provincial animal husbandry and veterinary journals, and won the Hebei Provincial Science and Technology Achievement Award and the National Invention Patent. Liu Fang has been awarded the honorary titles of "Department Professional and Technical Top-notch Talents", "Langfang Agricultural System Advanced Worker", "Hebei Province Animal Epidemic Prevention Work Advanced Individual", "Hebei Province Immunization Labeling Work Advanced Individual", "Hebei Province Animal Disease Monitoring Work Advanced Individual" and other honorary titles.

Liu Fang said that in the next step, she will continue to improve her professional knowledge and skills, strengthen technical services, provide technical guidance for farm households, improve their breeding level, and promote value-added and efficiency.
